HELP PLEASE..PLEASE

im new to the site so appologies for postin in the wrng section if i have but im in a rush and a panic... ihave a likle renault clio 1.2 rn on a T reg and i went out to start it today and it seemed like lack of power to the starter ( very slowy and abnormally turned) gauages flicked up nd down and warning lights flashed on and off .... i did a test for power from the alternator everything seemed fine ...correct current on every test so i guess it cant be an earth ....please people any idea??? is it a earth i dnt know about ?? ecu??? battery?? please lads help me i need to fix this .... also the time clock seems to have re -set like a complete loss of power ( battery??) ...also jump starting it seems to temporarly fix the problem ???? any help much appreciated .jake

come on mate ive come on this forum for useful advice and help not silly comments ...please any 1 with a useful suugestion?

no he's serious, sometimes hitting the starter with a hammer does the trick, sounds stupid i know but its worth a bash (no pun intended!)

but yeah, cud also be flat bettery, tried jumping it off another car?

Yeah the starter solenoid can stick. Try rolling it back and forth in gear.

I'd go with a new battery though. A T plate car would be due if its the original.

Battery - when you try to start the car press the horn - if it dies on you when your attempting to turn it over its the battery at fault. Did you leave any lights one last night ?? if not fit a new battery and whilst its running do an ampage check - it should generate between 12 - 14 volts output. If it does its ok - also check for drainage of power from the battery.

You may get away with charging the battery - if not replace it.
