Help Plz - Car Running Like A Bag of Nails

  Audi TT 3.2 V6
Hi, could do with a bit of help please.

Got in my car tonight to drive to the gfs, all was fine until i stopped at a round about (driven about 2miles at this point) pulled off and the car had no go, appeared to have gone into limp mode.

Now, I suspect this is due to a flood i drove through earlier on in the day but what strikes me as weird is the car was fine after and half way to the gfs it just went.

I crawled....sorry limped home and had a gander and there was a bit of water on the top of the engine and a little on the air filter box. Ive pulled all the spark plugs out and checked, none appeared to be wet but i dried them off anyway and fired the hairdryer down each cylinder which seems to have stopped the misfire and restored power to its normal self.

However the engine management light is still on, it was flashing at first and is just static now. Anybody know what the difference is?

Final part to the long post.... I took the filler cap of and there is mayo looking substance around the top, ive heard this can mean the head gasket is on its way out? or is it likely to just be because the engine has been misfiring?

Any suggestions on how I can clear the engine management light? ive parked the car in the garage overnight now in the hope that it will clear up overnight lol

Cheers for any help and suggestions,

Russ

Edit - See attached pic of filler cap

mayo in the filler cap is quite normal for the 1.2.

as for the management light, you need to take it to a renault garage to get it plugged into a CLiP system to have it diagnosed, and then reset.

i always use adrian wilson in leek

Ive had the management light come on before after having the engine steam cleaned, after drying the plugs it went off. Is that likely to happen this time u think?

Car is running fine now anyway, I took it upto 90 earlier to test it lol before that I struggled even get it go above 20. Light is still on though, weird how it was flashing yet now its perm on. serv light didnt come on either which struck me as odd

yeah moisture in the plug recesses etc. can make the engine misfire and trigger the engine management lights. i'll be honest when i say ive got no idea if they'll go off on their own, but for what it costs (20quid) you may as well just get it tested and reset if your about in the area

probably moisture somewhere russ, give it a day or so as others have said before taking it in for diagnostics checks.
