Help - Poorly Engine

  Trophy Turbo :)
Hi guys.

Ive got a issue with the 172. The car has been spot on, but not struggles to start, and wehen it doesw it rattling its face off, and the revs are at 500rpm, push the throttleand the revs WONT increase for around 15 seconds, its the older mk1 engine NONE FBW but once the revs rev the car idles all horrible, its shaking and vibrating, and keeps stalling. unless u keep the throttle on. The car is a hybrid and is in a valver. The car has been running great with no issues for 200 miles, i did replace the belt and ternsioner, before i fitted the engine... and yes i did lock both the crank and the cams, Ive been told this sound slike a possible timing belt slipped issue.

changed fuel filter, air filer, plugs for NGK's

I had the car on the rollers today and he took it right to the limter twice today too and its only make 156hp.... Fully decatted
Just wondered if any one else had experinced or know what this could be?

Cheers Guys

Andy, did the tapping go away after a certain point in the rev range, if so iirc it could be the dephaser as mentioned above

  Clio 182
And another one, been reading some threads on the dephaser pully and the tapping noise...

Does the noise dissapear after 1500/1800k if so then is sounds like the dephaser..
If its all the way through the rev range then yeah the timing could be out..........remember my old Saxo VTS did this when the timing was out as well........

no mate it does it all the time, it didnt ustill today tho. Im pissed with it but im getting the engien out tomorrow to check the timing :) should take abt 2 hours or so thank got i have a 2 poster :)

my car is doing the same thing, it goes in on tues for timing belt. i was told it was the pully that was doin it il av 2 let u know if it fixes it.

  ITB'd MK1
shouldn't need engine out to check the timing!!!!!! Matteh has done it on his valver172 with engine in. to check it you wont even need to take the belt end engine mount off, only if it's out.

but to be honest for what it takes to drop the subframe out the 16v takes about 30 minutes with hubs, the engine then goes onto wood, lift it up with my 2 poster and leaves the engine on the floor = easy, much easyer too see then the side with a dirty big massive front leg in your way :)
