HELP !!!! poorly engine :(

Right people,
Last night I was travelling down the M5,in the fast lane overtaking nicely. the speedo said 85mph, still accelerating when all of a sudden I lose all power, there is no response from the pedal, engine management light comes on as well as battery light, message saying check injectors and battery.

Pull over to the hard shoulder where the engine cuts out completely and the car wont start again.

Any one had this problem or know the cause ?

I've had my check injector lights appear a couple of times, normally when I've given it too much juice too quickly. Turning the engine off and on sorted that though.

How does it sound when it's trying to start? Normal or does it sound like it turns over fast?

turned out to be a wrong fuse put in my previous owner, it blew out and caused engine to shut down ( simple fuse cost me £90) but now the fuel cap will not release ?
