Help!! Stop and battery light on

While driving on the motorway, my heater decided to stick to maximum, and then a few minutes later, my STOP and battery light came on.

Pulled over, and now stopped at Bridgewater services. What do the lights mean and what should I do?

Can I carry on to Bristol?

When i got those light on my dash it was because the alternator went. You dont want too know how much it cost

I'd say no. However I'm sure if you spoke to dan nicely he'd come in tomorrow afternoon and have a look (your only about half an hour from his garage)

Is it as simple as connecting that wire to that nut?

Didn't see that :S

Danlp6, I connected it back up but still no luck. Multi-metred the battery while running, and it was losing charge.

Is there any fuse that may have gone? Any ideas?

Only the main fuse but you'd have nothing then. Sounds like a goosed alternator.

Is it just a coincidence that the alternator would go at the same time as the wire/connector snapping?

Know anybody that could fit an alternator today? Lol.

Yeh dan could've done it this afternoon!

Called out RAC, alternator failed. However, didn't recover me due to it being a 'pre-existing' failure. RAC guy advised that my car would make it to Bristol, so I managed to get it there thankfully.

Is Dan available Monday for an alternator change?
