HELP! Stop light just come on!

So, jut filled up £30 at Tesco, turned the car on, drove out the station, went about 300m around the round and then the big red stop light came on!

What can it be, and how can i sort it, and what do i do?

Help asap please.

my emissions light, but thats been on since ive had my decat around 7-8 month ago.

Any ideas people? Want it sorted asap.

Renault megane coupe, 51 plate.

Full stainless exhaust, turinis, coilovers, panel filter.

Emission light has been on for around 7 month because of the decat. Car has run fine since the decat. i only drove it around 2 miles from the petrol station with the light on, because i didnt know what was going to happen. i stopped for around 30secs with my car off as soon as the light came on. then restarted the car and it was still on.

I dont know what to do, and think if i have to go to renault i'll be paying through the roof?

Need help asap.

Surely it the same as a clio really?

Both renault engines, and other things are the same.

Can u tell me what it would be with a clio then i can apply this to my meg?

Well with the Clio I would expect another light to be lit indicating the exact fault. The STOP light only really comes on along with another light. The STOP light and (!) light are common in Clios meaning your brake pads have worn and your brake fluid level needs checking!

In your case it may be due to the de-cat, which when mixed with Tesco fuel has dirtied one of your sensors. Maybe the emissions light would have illuminated had it not already been lit?

well lets say my emission light wasnt on, and this caused it to come on, what would the problem be? and is it "fatal" so to speak

Well I'd guess that if the Meggy is similar to a Clio then it will have emissions sensors in the exhaust. If this is already dirty from the decat and then the fuel you're running is a little rich or whatever it can lead it to believe there is something wrong, hence the stop light.

All pure speculation of course!

as said the stop light only comes on with another warning light,, even im meganes.

if nothing else is on (forget your emmisions light as thats an advisory (yellow))

then all i can really think is that one of the smd's in the dash isnt working, cant think of a time the stop light comes on on its own

find a guy in your neighborhood with a RS tuner kit and read the faultcode....
