Help v.sick clio

  Clio 1.4 16V Dynamique
Hi
I need help i have a 1.4 dynamique which is sounding rather sick.
it sound like a vw van ATM i have a loss of power and the exhaust seems to be overheating as the cat is glowing red hot and stinks of burning after a 10 min drive the whole car shake at idle but seems to be idling at the right RPM and suggestions.
im thinking the cat has gone

your right the cat is blocked. its not letting the gasses excape so there building up coursing too much back pressure and genorating loads more heat and a lot less power. get a new one an dont drive it untill its changed dude, you could greate a second ignition in the cat if some petrol or unburnt fluid makes it down to the hot cat. = very bad

My sis has a MK2 Ph1 clio 1.4s and when when the cat went on that it had a real unwillingness to rev past 2500rpm, even in first gear you would struggle to get any revs out of it.

my dads mondeo was the same when the cat went on that, but cats can course so many issues when they go wrong, you really need to get a new one,

i took it to a exhaust place and thay said everything was fine wid the exhaust and it is the car misfireing.

so what problems can cause misfireing and how can it be fixed then plz people

too much back pressure can course a missfire cos its not getting rid of the zorst gasses. try dissconecting the cat from the manifold down pipe move them apart so that you have clearance, then start it up and let it run, see the diffrence in the idel and see how it revs etc,
there should be a massive diffrence

i changed all the spark plugs which made no difference (but definitely needed changing) so i thought i would experiment
i took the coil out and put the spark plug on the end and started the engine to see if i could see a spark 1,2 and 3 plugs had a spark.
4 when i took it out still was shiny as if it had never sparked and had unburnt petrol around it i switched on the engine to find that there was no spark.
i swapped it for another coil to make sure it wasn't the leads but it was definitely the coil cost me £48 to replace. not bad common problem with Clio's apparently.

now its running the smoothest i ever seen.

i think the glowing exhaust was caused but fuel being ignited in the cat making it v.hot

glad its sorted m8, but keep an eye on that cat, cos unburnt fuel ignigtion in the cat can course a lot of damage to the internals. it could end up at mot time you have high emmisions, as you might have burnt a lot of the metals out of the cat that deal with the conversion
