help whats wrong with my engine?

hi everyone can someone give me some pointers please my car has covered 57k from new and has been service every year just had fully syntho oil done elf excellium with a full engine clean before hand...this was done a couple of weeks ago..anyway just had a blast on my way home round som bends and giving it large on the straight and my enigne sounds very very tappety and rattling underneath from outside what could this be? i am sick of repairing this fooking car now i am getting bored of it he he..by the way not had the cambelt or auxillary belts changed wooops!!!

57k on the stock AUX belt thats wounds like your problem might have got losse.

Get it changed quicke if it breaks as they do its a £1k bill minimum as its takes out the cambelt 99.99% of the time.

Need to find out where the noise is eaxctly is it rev dependant?

hi there mate that sounds bad i had a queking soud the other day like the belt was slipping but only did it on start up the noise was bad when i came to a stop and left it on idle?

Sounds like the belt and tensioners need changing its just not safe leaving them.

2.7 hours officaily to do the change.

Nope don't think they are but depending on there condition I'd change them.

(although I'd never have tensioners on a 172/182 aux belt so not realy somehting I can answer from my own view)

Does it sound like a deisel on idle?
If so it's gona be the de-phaser pulley on the inlet cam.
Done around 9 of them recently on clio's and espace's sound sweet as a nut once its changed.
Seems to be a common failure over the last few months.

thanks guys for the comments so far...yeah it sounds diesely how much does it cost to change the part you mentioned? also how much is an auxillary belt and the cambelt kit from renault? anything else needed to change everything at that time? cheers guys strangly it has not done the same intense sound as it did the other night so dont know what is going on what did happen today though went through a large puddle and the belt which i assume is the aux belt started squelling really bad!!!

If its the de-phaser pulley fit a new one - do NOT fit a used one !!


Cambelt kit ..... what type of engine is fitted ?

They will pick up on it.

Err bit job yep say 6 hour laboutr they'll chnage the cambelt at the same time.
