Help with faded paint..

  Mk3 1.6
As you can just about see.. my bumpers faded and looks a more metalic orange, where as my bonnet/wings are red.. Its starting to bug me just wondering if anyone knows a way other than spraying it to get it back to the original colour. Also.. Is there any tidy splitters thatd fit my car? Aiming for cheap and cheerful subtle mods :p

T-cut works on Vauxhalls as there's no lacquer

All Renault paint as far as I know has a clear coat. So if the finish is faded, its below this clear coat, so nothing can be done other than a respray. The fading is due to UV damage

Seriously the cleaner at work had a vauxhall with extremely faded paint, I spent hours getting it back but it did come up pretty good, Worth a try anyway.

Yeah, thats cos Vauxhall flame red has no clear coat. With a clear coat your only cutting that, so it wont have any effect on the colour of the paint below it.

Go to halfords and buy some meguiers restoring compound polish

Bloody amazing stuff, perfect for faded red

What it does is remove/cuts the top layer of faded paint to reveal the bright glossy paint underneath

With a clear coat you cant restore damaged faded base coat. You'll only be cutting at the clear coat. On a old car with no clear coat, a cutting compound will bring it up as new, but 90% of cars now have a clear coat finish.

Cheers for the advice guys, but i think Kev is right haha.. Heard it from someone else but wanted to be sure.. Seems to be a common thing with all clios, noticed EVERY clio in my work has it except 1 liquid yellow f1 cup haha

Agreed Kane.

Anyway. I seem to be coming across another problem... Garages when respraying Capsicum Red for eg are actually using solid colour.

JimWD had a Trophy detail earlier this year and had paint transfer on his pads. Some garages just just assume that Reds are always solid colour. Poor but what can you say.

The picture above you can actually see the top of the bumper is quite horizontal like the bonnet so the sun is going to be baring right down on it.

I'd still hazard a guess that it's been painted before. Plastics also react differently to uv than metal so it could be a case of fading plastics before metal.

My thread about did warn of this slight problem. As you can see yours is a 55 plate just like the Trophys which are having some issues.

I'm trying to find out more about it.

So he basiclly might aswell give it a go as the bumper may not have a clear coat due to a dodgy respray?

Just get some light polish and a pad and if there's paint transfer on the pad it's solid colour... Either that or you've went through the clearcoat.

Either that or it's had a shocking colour match seen it happen.

Nah dont think its had a respray, the back bumper, wing mirror caps, roof rack thingymajigs, basically everything plastic, that is exposed to the sun.. except the wings which is bizzare lol

Butttt, think ill have to find a good local bodyshop to get it sorted :)

I would use G3 and plenty of water and try that, absolutely amazing stuff. I have a red Clio and non to sure if it has clear coat but the best way to check.

get some G3 / T- Cut (Personal Choice) and rub a bit on an inconspicuous spot (inside the boot lid or something) if you see red on your cloth its not got a clear coat. If its clean you got a clear coat.
