HELPP WHATS THIS DOING THERE ???

hiya cleaned out my throttle body yesterday due to revs going all weird and stalling ... when i took it off this is what i saw from the throttle body facing the engine

.. dont no whats happened or going to happen its like oil... i cleaned it all put it back now the car doesnt stall but stays around the 1000 mark all the time unless your sittin somewere then it will sort its self out back down to 900-800 ver strange all help would be appreciated please..

I'm guessing that it might be oil, which has been heated whilst driving, but saying that I'm not a mechanic of any sort mate. I'd get an opinion of someone who clearly know's about engines and don't trust any Tom, dick ao Harry!

Assuming its oil from the pic then that'll be oil thats come up the breather and condensed on the throttle butterfly. Wouldn't really worry about it it does like a little excessive but it if hasn't been cleaned since 2001 then that'd explain it. Clean it up and see what happens.

I had the same idle problem with my 1.6 had the throttle body changed under warrenty twice, would be fine for 6 months then it'd start it again. As it was more of an annoyance than a problem I just left it be and kept the body clean.

^^^ spot on. Perfectly normal. Just give it a good clean.
