Hi All, Insurance Companies and Quotes

HI All, I have joined the forum because my daughter wants a 2002 Clio Dynamique 1.2 as an 18 th Birthday present, she will be 18 Saturday 20th May, so my question is, would you be so kind as to answer the following questions, as it will be very helpful to my family.

Which company do you have insurance with ?
How much does it cost ?
Are you the main driver on the policy ?
Did you add your parents or anyone else to the policy ?

If you take the time to answer the questions, then tyvm. ATB. Reeco

Have a nice day.

Insurance will vary due to individual circumstances... best bet would be to get an online quote from elephant or admiral just to get an idea. As regards to adding a parent on, I know this helps especially if the parent has been driving 5+ years has no claims or points and even better if they are female.

yeah make sure the quotes in the persons own name but add someone to the policy like the mother. should be looking at around 1500 ish i reckon. but i could be way off in either direction.

www.confused.com will give you an idea of ballpark figures, then you can either go with one of the ones that quotes from there or you can use the figures to compare prices from other companies that you may want to 'phone.

Personally I would recommend Co-operative Insurance Services (CIS) for young drivers as they are usually quite cheap, and I believe they offer Third Party cover for driving other cars, something which 99% of companies won't unless you're over 25. (I may be wrong though - it's been a while since I was with them so I'd check to make sure!)

try tesco for her on a 1.2, they are good for young new drivers on low insurance grouped vehicles.

When she gets her car, get her to join up on the forum and we will look after her ;)

HI All, I am very grateful to you all for taking the time to help me out, and I will try everyones ideas out and ring the companies named. ATB. Reeco

  Mk 2 Ph 2 1.2 16v
My cheapest quote I found was from Bell. Think they specialise in drivers with 0 NCB.

  BMW M135i
When I had my 2001 1.2 16v Dynamique I was with tesco for £1700, was a new driver at the time and it was the cheapest I could find.

Hi there

In my experience you get lower quotes from smaller companies, such as these little local companies you see knocking about the high street.

Otherwise, try a broker such as theaa.com (AA) as they shop about for you. Also I've found that it's far far better to call the companies than it is get online quotes as, although you may save 10% online on your purchase of insurance, because the online tools rely on generic info you don't get as good a price in the first place.

I'm with a company called A Plan who were 400 quid cheaper than anyone else i tried and with no differences to the policy. Their no is: 01635 874 646.

:)

Agreed, these guys are very good and you're right, they do give Third Party Cover for all other vehicles. I loved that at age 18!

Hi.. first off.. its a very funky and safe starting car.. gud choice i still miss mine. anyway

was insured with direct line first year with the new 1.2 dynamic and 18 bday at the time = 2000 fully comp/main driver.. then switched to named driver following year = 300 pound with mum as main driver. I then stayed with that for 3 years..

and thanks to direct lines policy of named drivers getting no claims discount.. i have 4 years ncb.. and now 21 have a clio172 wit premium of 800 quid fully comp/main driver. (provided i stay with direct line)

may be worth a think to start as a named driver.

I am 17 male... and have a 2003 plate 1.2 Dynamique sport...

I am insured with tesco
It costs me £1700
I am the main driver on the policy..
Neither of my parents are on the insurance.

Tesco is by far the cheapest i have found for insurance.. your best bet is to, do a couple of quotes online.. and see what you get...

Good luck.

Hi, it may be worth doing an online quote through a brokers like Adrian Flux. I'm with them and they are excellent (I am 25 though!) I think wasfirst with A plan then got cheaper quote @ renewel with Norwich Union when I was 18, then changed to Tesco when i got an imported car. Now with Highway through Adrian Flux since I got the Clio and they are great.

  Golf GTI 1.8T
at 18 on my car (mk2 ph1 1.4 8v sport) I paid £1466 with tesco fully comp.

think they were the cheapest I found at the time, try adding her mother or an older sis (if there is) as this normally brings it down bit.

I've renewed at 19 this year with Virgin as they were by far the cheapest, plus they dont charge interest for monthly payments which is a bonus!!

As mentioned above, get her doing pass plus and it should knock a bit off and make her a little safer. Then enrol her into an Institute of Advanced Motorists course to make her even safer! www.iam.org.uk :)
Some of them have a cashback scheme so it can be free if you're under 24
