Hi from South Africa

  Clio '07 2.0 Sport
Hi ,
Just bought a 2nd hand 197 '07 , and I Love it!

The frenetic gearbox is mental (I love it)
goes like on rails, like it has glue on the wheels
Sharp + precise! , powerful

I can go all day telling you things you all already know,

Anyways , I got the feeling that I would like to keep it for ever(Fingers crossed)

I'm Coming from Alfas, and its my first Renault in SA,

had a clio before in Argentina where I'm originally from , it was a 1.9 Diesel (many years ago) and it was an amazing little car, almost trouble free ,

but there Renault is very popular, not like here where Renault is just breaking in the market ,
In Arg, to get parts and service is as easy as to find bread in a bakery.
But here seems to be only from Dealers.

If anybody here is from SA, where you take the car for service / repairs ?
dealers?
Any Indie specialists around?

The used car market over there is so expensive man!!

Just remember to keep your doors locked at traffic lights ;) haha

yeah, expensive market, same with brand new cars ...
Not sure what you mean with the doors lock, but I got my AK47 under the seat.. :D
its part of the emergency kit in Johannesburg ... LoL!

Note: its not so bad here, but I know what people overseas think about Johannesburg security
I haven't got any problem that I didn't have in any other part of the world ..(Yet ..crossfingers )

Do you have any lions as pets? Do they live in your garden? If you swim in the sea, are you scared of sharks?

Oh and hello :)

instead of traffic lights there is trained monkeys holding and swapping signs mounted on top of giraffes necks

I was in Jo'burg in March, drove past the Renault dealer in Benoni a few times. Saw quite a few RS Meganes and a couple of Clios, but what's wit hthe crazy number of MkII Golfs? Millions of them!

Welcome to the club btw.

IDK, ... ask the locals! , I think they come with the Kinder Egg.

Think you guys call them the City?

On another point, does the high altitude affect your car in anyway? Fuel consumption or noticably down on power, compared to if you drive it at see level? I did call in at a petrol station whilst there and remember thinking that they had very low octane fuel. Is this because of the altitude?

Yeap the latest incanation of the Golf here was called City.

Joke aside, the reason is the same why VW was producing Beatles in Mexico until recently. and people keep buying them

Old reliable technology , and huge profit margins ...
in Argentina we had the Peugeot 504 until 1999 , Nigeria until 2005,
and the Renault 12 being manufacturer until 1992

Yes it does affect the power, not a lot but noticeable.
95 is the best you get here., also the diesel is 50ppm
Nope is not because the altitude. somebody else can perhaps explain this better why , But I think is down to commercialization/imports/production factors.
