HID idiot

hey. ive been lokin at gettin a HID kit fot my clio. fews questions tho? are HIDs the same as xenons, like you get on BMWs or sumthing? also i heard sumwere that you need headlight washers if you have HIDS, nt sure where i have heard this but was wondering if its tru? as on mine (2003 1.2 16v billabong) it hasnt got them. thanks

Yes h.i.d's are the one's you see on bm's mercs etc but don't get them for your clio as it hasn't got projector headlights and you'll just blind everyone with the glare from your lights.

Some MK3's have the opic head lights which can have the HID's with out the glare.

Unless you have Projector Headlights dont bother and from your profile saying a 03 Billabong you wont have projectors so dont bother !!

There not illegal, ur car only has to come with washers if it comes standard with xenons.

aah sorry my mistake, so they arnt illegal???? why do alot of ppl on here go on about them being illegal then? like your supposed to have projectors and washers etc etc

the projectors are to make a fixed beam pattern, reflector headlamps (standard on non-sports) give a scattered beam pattern which can shine right into the faces of oncoming drivers

hence, they are illegal. and look chavvy.

Law only states Washer and Self Leveling ( I think that the only two things ) for factory fit Xenons/HIDs folk say there illegal without Projector lenses as the spread of light from them is iratic and can ( not saying it does ) blind on coming traffic and could cause a crash...

Ive had them in 2 weeks now and like i said at £38 i had nothing to loose, the "they look chavvy" is strictly a personal opinion as i think they look 10 times better than my old lights and i havnt had any issues with people flashing me / blinding people

A very common misconception, ur lights have to be white not bule thats all. Please note if ur buying 8k bulbs there have just been painted slightly bluer'. The projectors are dichroic blocks which split the spectrum directing the blue hue towards the outside and allowing neutral white to pass towards the front.

Does anyone have anymore pics?

A Xenon Arc Lamp is a form of a High intensity Discharge Light, these require a ballast to produce "steady" power and create light by arcing electricity between points (the best of which is called HMI). when electricity is arc'ed in an enclosed xenon gas filled container it emits light. You can get ur self normal lights from Halfords which say xenon technology, these mean they are using the typical filament design but instead of being in a vacuum the bulbs are filled with xenon gas.

Basically this Arcing process will only result in a colour temperate of 5-5.7K depending on the age of ur bulb, the bulbs for sale that say 8K+ are just coloured blue, don't waste ur money on these (if there more expensive then normal bulbs) as you can get the same results from a test sample of CTB from Lee filters.

cheers for that. I know, they work exactly the same way as the lamps in the lights i maintain for night clubs there just higher voltage and wattage.

I went for the 6000k as it seemed to be most popular, my mate has 8000k in his standard A3 xenons and there way too blue

well because chavs have them usually, and the fact they are usually blue when not in projectors, that's why i said the bit in red.

Another tiresome thead, every other day someone does ask about xenon conversions. Surely it would be better to reopen an old thread asking the question u need to know once u have read through it. Im not personally targeting u Jaykay but This question has been asked alot. here is some helpful links for u...

p.s, working on Mac250's (sending them back to richard martin for a service) doesnt qualify indepth knowledge as u are under the infulance the bulbs produce 8000Kelvin?

The pricks that go past me blinding with there HID kits, Go to fast for me to flash the s**t out of them.

One was behind me today all the way to the gym, I felt like getting out and twatting him/her.
