Sadly my house must have daft walls and I really struggle for signal.

What are the good routers these days that I can use along side plusnet fibre?

Just add an access point??

Or there's plenty of plug and play wifi extenders on Amazon etc?

Wiring is annoyingly on two separate loops....

I think part of the issue is the current plusnet supplied routes is just a bit s**t on both wired and wireless connections.

Is it just a change of suppliers? If so just use your old fibre router?

Its one I've had for a while. Its on its way out, not helped by the house.

Drops connection a lot where as the feed from the modem is solid.

Loads of home hubs on ebay. Might risk one.

HomeHub 2 is the key, if you're a BT customer.
I could very easily be wrong, but I think they dont work (either well, or at all) with non-BT broadband.
Apparently Hub4 upwards works with Plusnet. Integrated modem would be good too.

Whats the cost of those?
Because you may start walking into the price band of actually good kit.

Just got a sealed on for £25. So can't grumble and it'll get rid of the little BT modem I have to use too. Free's up a plug.

perfect job.......well, maybe, you'll soon find out anyway. If not, you may have to actually spend some real money

Its got to be better than a 5 year old router and modem combo.... You can cook on the modem....

I've found Draytek stuff to be decent in buildings with super thick walls.
Normally I praise Draytek kit through and through - but even those have their limits. :)

One of the directors here has a super-thick wall - at least 3ft thick with what I assume is filled in with various debris and other bits, when it was built. Even the Draytek with it's three antennas cannot transmit through it. You can stand physically 6ft away from the router on the other side of the wall and the signal plummets to nothing. I've never seen it that bad before...

Problem you're always going to have with WiFi is that it has a maximum EIRP (equivalent isotropically radiated power IIRC) in the EU of 100mw or 20dBm - which is not much... And there's a limit on the gain you're legally allowed to have too.
If your walls are that thick there's only so much an expensive router is going to do for you as there's only so much you can fight physics.
I have a good few books on this stuff you're welcome to read

Try a different router and let us know how you get on, though in your situation I'd either be,
a) Considering a repeater
b) Moving the router to a better spot
c) (And my personal favourite) Ethernet cabling the s**t out of the house
d) Finding ways to quietly boost my transmit power

Repeaters can be great, if they all link up.
but when you end up with repeaters that need seperate passwords, they can be a proper ass ache

  Hi comp phase 1
I've used a Netgear wifi range extender (booster) from Curreys for £30 if that's any use for your problem. Really good bit of kit, easy to setup and I get full wifi signal all round my house now. It just plugs in a socket half way between router and dead zone and it just boosts the signal up.

HH's are s**t, just so you know. Sorry you've just wasted £25!

Had the 3, replaced with a proper router. Had the 4 @ in the new house, went back to the proper router very quickly. For wifi, it's one of the worst I've had, constantly dropping out if you have more than one device on (same with the HH3 tbh).

I'm sure a HH won't work on talk talk line as the profile login is different, you will have to change it which I think you can on HH3 and above.

When you say your house is on two loops do you mean two phases or two ring mains?

If two ring mains power line adapters with wifi will work fine. We run them out to cart lodges etc and always trouble free.

My home hub 5 is w**k and I can't wait to move in the next month or so... Will be going to sky who I never had a problem with

I wonder if you can go
Router -> power line adapter -> cat5 through a wall -> power line adapter -> wifi extender

The idea being put the power line adapters somewhere where the cat5 can take a short route to join your 2 electrical loops

2 electrical loops do not matter, as long as they're in the same distribution board.

Homehub 5 has arrived with report on if its better than the 4 year old modem and 2x router combo!

It'll be nice to free two plugs up for sure!

First port of call would to split the 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels on the router.

Draytek routers are very, very good and full of functionality if not a bit ugly. My network at home is pretty extensive (in comparison to most homes) and router wise I use an ASUS RT-AC87U & Draytek 2130n with a Virgin Media home hub in modem mode.

I use an apple airport and have a netgear extender downstairs for when I'm in the garden.

I use a Linksys ac router, can't remember the model number. I'm almost certain it's ruining everyone else's signal strength
