Hole in a hose...

  Renault Clio 1.5dci
Good afternoon people!

I've just been to change the air filter on my car and underneath the air filter box there is a hose that, it seems the air filter had been resting on and now it has a small hole in it but there also seems to be some residue that looks like its been leaking from/around the same area.

I've looked at my haynes manual and its describing it as the 'crankcase ventilation cover'? not sure if this is correct? Just wondered if this is a serious problem and if this was an easy job to replace it?

Thanks for any advice!

souns like a hose for oil...change it soon though as if its got a hole in then youll lose oil slowly and not good for your engine!

Not sure on the layout of the DCI. On the 172, there is a coolant hose running alongside the airbox, this rubbed and split causing a coolant leak on my car. If there is no water residue, it probably won't be a coolant issue.

If it is a breather pipe, it may well draw unwanted air into the inlet and cause irratic idling etc. Put your finger over the hole and see if the revs change.

Either way, it needs fixing.

Thanks for the replys guys. I have no idea what the hose is used for, as i only know basic mechanics (trying to learn!). Hence why i was wondered if anyone knew if it was an easy swap if i bought a new hose.

Unfortunately i haven't got a picture of my car, but have a picture of the hose from the haynes manual. The hose is literally under the air filter box of the dci engine.

Looks like the crankcase breather, definitely needs replacing but is simple enough to do :)

Where does the hose go, do you know?

Would a hole in this hose be the reason there has residue leaking around this area or is there another problem too?

I'm not quite sure where it goes.... will have another look 2moro. I've not noticed any problems with the car though..

It could be the reason yes as an oily residue will leak from it if it's the crankcase breather.
It isn't a major issue really but get it repaired just for peace of mind :)
