Home Cinema/Speakers

Right, its about time I bought some but im not really sure what im looking at.

It needs to be black and Samsung so it matches my Tv.

Most of the packages seem to come with a DVD player so I suppose one that will upscale would be a good thing..

I have to be able to connect my Sky+ and 360 to it as thats where the majority of my films come from.

Budget of £200ish..

(McBunny, you dont need to suggest £4,000 packages that would blow the ears off an African Elephant ;))

Just make sure that whatever you get has at least one digital input (xbox 360) and one phono/rca input (sky+)

I wouldn't be limited to the manufacturer just to match your tv. IMO Samsung surround sounds aren't the best even to my ears.

Find a system in budget and make sure you get to have a listen before ordering anything!

Dan, you need to get the philips one i got. Matches my Samsung! :) It's stunning and sounds crackin too...

*Oops got excited, 200£ budget*

How much was yours?

The link Griff posted doesnt work anymore.

It does look pretty good, even against that 70's wallpaper! ;)

Cheers, Nige. Maybe Samsung isnt so essential if its not the best sound wise! Which is fairly important! lol..

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Two optical inputs would be good, as Sky+ boxes have an optical out (and should you ever go to Sky HD, they sport an optical out too).

You need one of these...

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/1112083/art/sony/ht-ddwg800-home-cinema-sy.html?form=88#tech-specs

The Sony HT-DDWG800 has a total sound output of 865 Watts and comes with three HDMI inputs and an HDMI output, allowing you to hook up a DVD recorder or Blu-ray player. It?s also equipped with five audio inputs and a host of digital inputs, which make it fully compatible with your audio/video devices, and has a Bluetooth connection when used with an optional adapter. The Sony HT-DDWG800 even has a Digital Media Port interface, providing you with an easy way of controlling external peripherals without the bulk of cables, and high quality Bass Reflex speakers, so you can listen to music stored on your mobile phone or computer out loud. Finally, there is also an FM tuner, meaning you can listen to all the latest hits and news from stations in your area.

Worth it imo. Save up a bit longer, Credits to Griff for that one! :approve:

Glad you like it mate. Certainly looks the part!

Yep! Will get a pic up at some point! Only thing i would say is it's pretty big, so you need decent space and my neighbour doesn't appreciate the bass! Which is other ALot, not alot or off!

Such as? lol

I wont have a proper stereo or anything. All my music is on my computer which I have 2.1 speakers for.

If that'll connect my 360/Sky+ then I might buy it..

Ive got a Htq-100 2.1 system, its got aux in and optical in and upscales via HDMI. Not amazing but goes well with the Samsung R88 lcd i have. Newer versions are out.

I dont know if samsung actually do seperate speakers

I want 5.1.

Im not a sound engineer. This doesnt have to be *that* good. I just want a bit of noise and sound behind me.

Im just s**t with all the connections (Shush Griff) so want to make sure the one I buy can hook up my 360 and Sky+

If you're finding it hard to get 2 optical inputs MAPLIN do a splitter that will join two inputs fro £8 and the even do a switch for more inputs.

I tried a splitter from eBay which didn't work, but the Maplin one actually works really well.

Go and look at what I suggested earlier Revels.

I'm no expert either, but wanted connection options and some half decent sound.

Got my Sky HD, Wii, 360, permanently hooked up to it, and the camcorder/PS2 are on and off it regularly too...very easy, very straighforward.

No in-built DVD so I just use the 360...and it comes it at only just over your budget.

No good?

I don't think the lad was wanting to spend 400 notes tho,..

oh im not suggesting it for him im just saying in general

for 200 if that is you budget and you cant go more then your kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place tbf and all you can get is all in one systems that restrict you and what you can connect to it

unfortunatly it is a jump betwen that and entry level good systems

I just bought the cheapest 5.1 system Argos had with optical input about 5 years ago. £99 and five years later it still sounds good, connected up to my PS3 and freesat HD via optical with a splitter, it's fine! I love my separates don't get me wrong, building your own system from Richer Sounds is great, the results are great, but it is an expensive route when it comes to home cinema.

its no bad at all but i wouldnt use the hdmi inputs unless they will just pass through the video signal

I get home and on goes the TV, the Sky HD box, and the amp. 3 buttons, not hard, don't see what the problem is with it only having an active pass-through - why would you want an HDMI HD quality image, and only average 2 channel sound?

Since I bought it the volume on my TV has never been up, everything we listen to comes through our amp, the way it should be :approve:
