Horrible noise

  1.4 16V '52
Hey guys,

I have a clio 1.4 16V (2002), recently changed the rear shoes and its making a horrible scraping noise (intermittently) when breaking slightly / hand breaking loudly. The old ones where totally worn with the metal coming off the pad which caused it the rear to lock up, the drums look good inside. Got them back open to check everything was still good inside and everything seems fine ?

Any input appreciated.

Cheers,
Lucas

Get a bit of emery cloth and go round the shoes and drums just incase there is anything stuck on them or an indentation on them.
Measure the drums to make sure they are within spec.
If there is a lip of the drum this could also cause the noise, use some emery cloth on this aswell to flatten it out.
Put some brake grease on the contact points where the shoes touch the back part of the drum.
Pull back the dust covers on the cylinders and make sure there is no fluid coming out.
If the rears locked up try and make sure nothing is bent in there aswell.
Were the drums hard to get back on? try and adjust the handbrake if all else fails.

Do the 1.4's have taper rear bearing's? if so maybe a good idea to take them out and re-grease them.

Hope this helps in some way or another xD
