Hosted Backup/Dropbox alternative/Cloud

So, we all know Dropbox and other apps such as Google Drive, Skydrive etc.

Now we have been investigating "Box" for syncing documents as a backup. But its hosted in the US. So major legal implications for that, so we wanted it hosted in the UK.

Few clients opted for Trend Micros SafeSync, comes with a wee program, syncs folders you want, uploads it to "cloud" storage, managable via a web interface etc. Pretty good, but margin wise we wish something a wee bit more custom.

I have thought of the idea of using our own HostedServices which we have, located in the UK. Perfect, we already pay for unlimited space, bandwidth etc.

Now i have seen some software today.
http://sparkleshare.org/
http://owncloud.org/
http://www.syncany.org/

All look promising.

But has anyone used them, or recommend any they have used? Basically, we wish to load a program onto clients machine, select folders, it then puts backup copies/"syncs" to our host.

I can see those above do it, but seeing if anyone has experience with these or others.

Thanks.

Owncloud is ok, used it very briefly once but ended up just using dropbox as didn't see any point re-inventing the wheel

They're not really complex - it's just a client app that copies the file to your server.
Question is though is you're hosting backed up or if a hard drive goes pop do you lose it all?

Hosted, have all the facilities for unlimited space/bandwidth to setup a cloud solution. If we need we will go VPS or Dedicated. Just want to test options before picking one.

If we bring it in house, we will have redudancies, as we do already. Not playing silly with out backups, enforced Raid 10, RAID 5 etc. So we can double check in the office, but hosted for now is fine, we want to roll out see what happens really.

Just go for it then mate - or as one of my old bosses said "suck it and see"
They're all pretty much the same, and free, and take about 5 mins to install. Give one a go and see how you like it
