How accurate?? MPG

Hi, I was just wondering how accurate the MPG system is on the clio's. I went for a rather long drive today through a couple of the welsh valleys after filling up and resetting the MPG calculator. After around 60-70 miles, the dash was showing an average of 40.5 MPG and I was a little shocked at how well she was doing. I don't drive stupidly slow, although I was'nt hammering it.

What do you guy's think?

I avg 38 during the weeks. I drive the same, give a little throttle when some other worthwhile cars about but cruise about most of the other times! Not far out!!
