Ive got that TV, speakers are bad, but I only have a small room and dont care about it too much. It's not enough to make me think about other models, everything else seems great. sounds a good price, i paid £500 a few months ago.

Its weird.. cos the R74 is still £689 on amazon... whereas the newer one is £419? why is the newer one cheaper? on amazon anyway...

I've got the R71, which should have the same speakers.

I don't mind them as I only use them for quiet late night listening. Obviously you wouldn't expect volume and bass from them.

There is no point in flat screen manufacturers putting in better speakers as most people use external ones anyway.

PS - Amazon have new version - R87 IIRC - for around £400. I'm not sure on what benefits the newer range brings. I'd be interested to know.

Think I've got that one, but 32 ". Speakers are bad but i've you've got a home sound system things will be cool.

I have an R88 32"...

Speakers are fine for what they do, watching sky on around volume 26 is fine, everything sounds in proportion and doesnt sound to bad. I would imagine watching a DVD or something wouldnt be amazing but most people have seperate speakers.

I dont have the SRS feature on, makes the sound very odd imo

Generally, most consumers with HD tvs have a separate sound sysytem anyway, which the manufacturers are aware of, hense putting smaller more inexpensive speakers in high end tv's to minimise expense. A lot of companies do this.

i had a 32r74 which was fine but then again i used an external amp for sound, altho times when i did use it they were fine.

difference between 74 and 87 is 87 has touch sensitive buttons and 3 hdmi instead of 1 on the 74. also contrast is 5000:1 on the 74 yet is 8000:1 on the 87 (costco do the 32"87 for £500 for those who want to know)
