How do I centralise my steering rack??

  172 51REG
I've got a early ph2 172 non cup. Bought just a couple of weeks ago. Got it up on a ramp and found one wishbone was bent so replaced the pair and ball joints-did the tracking. Drives straight but I have 1 and a quarter turns left and 1 and 3 quarters turn right. How do I centralise the steering rack properly? Is something else in need of replacement? And how difficult is this going to be to do bearing in mind space etc?

Go and get the tracking redone.
Before you go centralize the steering rack, take off your steering wheel and put it so its straight.
Get whoever tracks your car to adjust both trackrods to suit.

The steering wheel can only go on in one position.

Sounds like something else is bent/broken. Normal is 2.8 turns lock to lock.

Measure the track rods they should be the same length, give or take.

I guess the column could have been put on 90 degrees out and then the tracking adjusted to keep the wheel straight?

Only messed about with steering racks on my 205's, I assumed wrongly that it was the same kinda thing.
