How do I fix the 4000rpm rattle

Anyone know how to fix it?

Its p*ss*ng me off now. & after a long session of booting it about it starts to get worse & starts making noises at higher RPMs.

Is it covered under warranty?

Its covered under warranty, although you may be asked to make a contribution as its a consumable item (i.e. it isnt expected to last forever).

Well what is it that needs fixing? is it a section of the exhaust or the whole thing? Or is it a cover that makes the noise?

At last service I told them about it but they couldnt find anything wrong. But I thought it was a common problem, so how could they not know about it?

I had this done a few months back, they replace the centre section of the exhaust and mine doesnt have the problem anymore. You could always get an aftermarket exhaust and that will sort it too.

It is a very common problem, ask the RT to go in the car with you so he can hear it for himself, that is what I did.

I had it done for FREE under warranty. Dont let them rip you off by paying for it, especially if your car is fairly new.

I have just seen your car description, it is the same age as my 172 and I was not charged for it.

I had mine replaced a few weeks back, Renault were gonna charge me 400 but a quick complain to Renault UK and they did it for free )

although not as bad I still get a rattle at 2K and 4K seems to be coming form behind the dash.

According to the service guy if they have to take the dash off they will charge whether they find anything or not.

what does it actually sound like?? as Im not sure if mine does it occasionally?



But TBH the noise I get sounded further forward a bit like the driveshafts are vibrating or something and it only really happens if I nail it in second or third coming out of a bend and Im right on the power (4500, 5000 rpm)

The rattle is when u let off the power. If you take it to just past 4000 then let off you will hear it. Unless yours doesnt do it.

It sort of vibrates the plastic round the gear stick as well. You will hear it better with the window open tho.
