The only free port i have on my router is a usb port so i guess there must be a cable you buy that has a usb on one and the broadband end ont he other.

But im not sure someone must know :S

£40 a year but I wouldn't bother unless you are gonna get a 360 at some point.

You only have to look in the other tech section to see how many people here subscribe to Live so that speaks for itself.

PS2 online is crap in comparison. People always go on about the PS and Wii service being free but trust me you get what you pay for 10 times over.

One service does everything you want of it and the others dont.

Yes its free, your slimline should have come with a network access disc, you need to put that into your ps2.

I''ve had no problems setting mine up. Although I have mine set up differently:-

8Mb Broadband internet connection through a standard usb dial up modem into my pc,
Standard ethernet network card in pc, that supplies a normal home network config to an Ethernet Network 4 port hub, then that supplies my 2nd PC and PS2's internet connection. All I've done is told Windows XP to share the internet connection on the network.

All of the PS2 games I have, auto config to the network and DNS settings that my PC supplies. So I've had no problems getting online with my PS2.
Everything seems to be free with PS2 online gaming, I haven't had to pay anything extra playing online.

That didnt make any sense to me :D

I have my broadband cable going into my router then into my ps2 nothing is connected with my pc.

Its simple so there shouldnt be any problems but putting in the details like ip and dns etc

The set up for a network on ps2 seems hard to set up

Sorry, didn't read the full thread so I missed the router bit.
If your connecting a PS2 to a router you will need a PS2 network CD to set up. Slimline PS2's did not come with this CD.

Router's I can't help you as I've never played with one, but I can tell you step-by-step how to set up a standard home network using network cards and/or hubs and share your internet connection. The slimline PS2 doesn't need a network cd for a pc supplying internet through a home network config.

Here's a quick diagram of how I have mine setup (excuse the simple design ;) )

Thanks but im lost lol

I have my broadband router and the cable coming from there into my ps2 slimline.

says do you want your ip auto or manual etc i thought it would be straight forward be no connection so i must be going wrong somewhere lol

Ahh, sounds like a firewall issue too in your router with the way you've now said it fails on connection after asking for auto/manual detection. the router's firewall might be blocking the active ping from/to your ps2 connection

You need to find out what your routers IP address is too.. (usually starts with 192.168.0.*** but I could be wrong on that, like I said, never played with routers. PC should be able to tell you (router software no doubt).

I'm sure someone with more router experience will read this and tell you exactly whats wrong. ;)

Thats what a ps2 forum said aswell check your firewall it may just be this.

Thanks

Have to see how i can find out how to get my routers ip then ?
