How Do You remove An Airbox on a 1.2i 16v

  Shed.
So the new gen of 1.2 16v engines. the 1.2i. how the hell do you get the airbox off. looks as though it puls away from the bottom. i have the star shaped keys needed to remove the screws.

On mine (52) 2 10mm bolts at the top and just pull it up !!! also gota take the cold air feed off !!! just untwist it from where the bat is !! ;)

no the 2004> version.

the one which has "Injection" on it too.

aye the one youve got is easy peasy to get offr but i just cant figure this one out.

Undo the jubilee clip on the right hand side, pull off the rubber breather pipe next to it, unclip and remove the air feed from the bottom of it (2 prongs need unclipping) then lift the front up and out of the pegs, and slide to the right.

They are all injection.

its that easy eh ?

am i right in thinking that for IK's ill need somehitng like a bend pipe.....

cheers. i know they all have injection. but did the odler 1.2 16v engines have it ?

Yes mate they're all Injection I've never heard one being called a 1.2 16v Injection before.

In theory you could just bolt on a induction kit straight on where the jubilee clip is, and just put a filter on the breather. You'd need to modify the CAF that goes into the bottom aswell if you did that.

someone correct me if im wrong but the only real noticable difference bar the engine cover is the air intake.

there both 1.2 16v injection. so is the 8v. infact i think all cars back to about 1992/4 are some sort of "injection" be it "mpi" or "spi"

ok. well the new engine feels a lot better down in the revs. even when going for it it feels a little faster.

still slow as s**t though but the 45mpg+ when crusing is a beit satisfying.

i think its mostly down to the design of the air intake. when i changed mine to a panel filter it seem'd like it had better response low down the rev's albeit very small amount of difference.

could just be this time of year with the old air an all :rasp: ;)

but your right there all still slow as s**t

The redesigned intake setup will account for any differences, all the D4F engines are MPI. Only the earlier D7Fs are SPI.

newer 2004> engines have a different airbox, inlet manifold, throttle body, ECU and exhaust manifold to name a few bits!!

the inlet manifold is shorter meaning the engine has a bit more torque which is the difference low down that your feeling.

i found our old 2005 one was much better low down than my 2002 car but when going for it the 2002 car was quicker

see i dont think the 05 is better low down. i even think that its better up in the revs too lol.

however i also think the 51 plate 1.2 expression i had, pulled to 80mph far better than my new one. i havent taken it on a dual carrage way yet and dont know how fast the thing goes lol. ive had the car almost a week now.

actually i take that back. had the thing 8 days now and its even more piss poor than the last one. the expression was a lot faster. previous owner was a woman. guessing a pannel filter and a good hard battering round the backroads will loosen it up a little.

my expression was abused though.

Just wanted to say Thanks to TomTom for post no. 4 above.

I'd been puzzling over how to get the engine cover off my 1.2 16v, and the above description was excellent. When detaching the air feed pipe there are two clips that need pressing; the second one isn't visible, so just feel for it directly opposite the one you can see.
