How do you remove the gearstick from a 172?

I should hopefully have a phase 1 172 gear knob on the way next week but I don't want to start cutting into my original item. My thought was that I could change the whole stick and then transfer back come sale time.

Can the stick itself be disconnected somewhere around the knuckle or do I need a complete stick and mount?

Also, can a stick from any mark 2 Clio be fitted?

Yep any can be fitted.

You can remove the whole lot if you want 4 bolts hold it in then undo the gear stick selector under the car pull the carpet round it.

doesnt the stick come out of its base if you remove a circlip?
