How do you wash yours...

  Dirty E91

Ive seen loads of nice looking shiney cars on here and wondered what you guys use and what steps you take when using them, is it a case of washing, drying then waxing?

What kit do you guys use?

if i have a large part of the day to do it:

- hose it down so loose dirt comes off

- wash it with wax n wash i think its called with a sponge

- hose again

- sometimes wash it again if car has been very dirty and hose it off

- chamois

- wax

- put the back to black stuff on the black trim (autoglym rubber and vinyl care) - although doesnt seem to last that long

- trye dressing (autoglym)

came up quite good last week when I washed it last (see avatar)

going to start using meguiars soon i think, a few people off here use their products and it seems to come up sparkling

  Yaris Hybrid

I used that flash thing the other day.

Shock horror after I had finished you couldnt tell the difference between that and when I normally use all my expensive Meguiars shampoos and polishes!!!!

Say what you like about all that expensive gear, the truth is that they fail the pepsi challenge!

It will look good toypop assuming that you used your meguirs stuff last time, then its simply renewing any previous shine.

Dont forgot it wont protect the finish either so you will still need to wax it.

Nah its the benefits of a silver car! My bro has never used Meguiars on his silver Yaris and my old man has never used it on his silver Vectra and I noticed that I would spend 5 hours on my Clio and they would spend 30 minutes on their cars yet theirs would look just as good! I thought stuff that, I am gonna give the flash thing a try. Used it a couple of times now and it does the business.

Only keeping it 3 years so not fussed about long term protection! Besides I could spend all that time waxing and polishing for long term protection and then have some chav key it or drive his nova into it!!

One thing I will say, I do still tend to chamois as opposed to using the autodry. The autodry is good on paint but at night you can see some marks on the windscreen. Its good to use the autodry and chamois it because on a hot day the bits that dry before you can get to them dont leave any water spots.

Halfords Shampoo, bucket and sponge. If Im feeling flush then I might even dry it off afterwards.

If I want it polishing then Ill just get my bro to do at his work as hes a valeter. I certainly cant be arsed with polishing the car by hand myself.

I really cant see the point in going to great lengths to clean the car. I washed it yesterday and after an hours hard charging around the backroads today, the front is now a fly cemetary. Gonna have to go a hose the f**kers off later.

I can never be bothered washing my car. i know i should but to be honest doing the whole wash, dry, polish, wax (done it twice since i got the car a year ago) just takes way too long. Also my car doesnt come up nicely after a wash anymore so id like to get it all done by a pro some time soon seeing as its summer.

Martyn, Id get yourself a good quality shampoo - Meguiars, Autoglym etc, a lambswool wash mitt (fantastic), and a chamois. Also some wax/polish.

I use meguiars shampoo and wax. Chamois the car after washing and then leave for an hour or two. The I start waxing and buffing with a terry towel.

Have an experiment with products and see what ya like.

Cheers

Tom

a little water, a little soap, and a chamois, nothing special, it is after all, only a car, not a reflection of your personality

use the Bumper Care instead mate, lasts ages and gives better results

I think cleaning it relieves stress and as Tom says, no better feeling than driving a clean motor when the sun is beating down!

I washed it at the weekend, used soapy water and then a Zymol cleaner wax which I understand to be part polish and part wax, did the job look snice and shiney and the beads a lot better.

Wont be using it all the time but had the cara a year and this is about as it had come to having some TLC!

used my Meguires NXT generation car wash the other day for the 1st time, really seems to work better than other stuff I have used in the past, just feels more slick when sponging.....dried it off with that cotton wipe of theirs, expensive but works geat too.

never gonna skimp on car care stuff anymore......

I wash mine with a sponge and about 6 caps of halfords shampoo.I leave it for 10 mins and then chamois it gently.I get on the floor and blow the water out from the number plates, wing mirrors. The spoiler pack on the rear is prooving to be a big problem,so it gets left for a good 10 mins with around 4 sheets of kitchen towel to draw the water out from there(I get red mist when my new clean car has water running down the back window after ive cleaned it for 2 days). The badges on the back are bad too for collecting water and where the bumper meats the wing and where the strip goes along the doors and half the rear quater.

I then put the car back in the garage and cover it with a lite wax like turtle wax exteme or some auto glym.Leave overnight and in the morning take off the dry wax and apply some zymol ,check the weather and dress the tyres and thats it you can either wax it again or go out and get it dirty(dry weather permitting).

You really need a garage to keep your car really clean

I just wash carwith brush and water and then leather the car off dry then leather wheels with brake dust spray and tyer foam stuff. Then instant shine spray with cotton clothe;).

only takes 30-45 max

what is wrong with me?
i cringe at the word sponge now.
i blame 182_blue, brun, mr sheep etc
have become so anal bout me paint.
im twitchy cos its got a dirty arse today

fer chrissakes

  LOTS!

Just bought Meguiers Nxt Generation Shampoo and Wax this weekend... Not too excited about the shapmpoo but the wax is great! and it smells nice! :)

For me, a quick swill down with cold water, then a good wash with sponge (microfibre topped jobbie), rinse, chamois dry and then wax finish.

Halfords do a cheap but efficient fly removing sponge... normal spnge with some fishnet tights wrapped around it! Excellent for shifting tough bits without damaging lovely paint.

TRY ZYMOL WAX, pale green stuff they sell in Hlafrauds for approx £11... smells of bananas and coconut!!! :D ITS GORGEOUS! And good wax too.

give it a quick sray down with the hose

wash with mothers wash, panel by panel, using a chamois to dry

clay with mothers clay bar kit if it needs it

wax with mothers wax and then polish with mothers reflections

then do the tyres and blck plastics etc

oh, forgot to mention, we got water restrictions, so cant wash cars with a hose any more, have to use buckets, takes ages to get rid of all the soap (most of the time I just use the hose anyways)....bloody annoying.

doesnt the saying "You cant polish a turd" mean anything to anyone???

ITS A f**kING RENAULT, NOT A CONCOURS SL GULWING!!!!!

Fred, Its only a renault as is yours, Your well respected on here for what you can do to clios suspension/handling wise and your known to be a very good driver of clios (maybe others as well lol).

If people want to make their cars look nice does it really offend you this much? I cant recall spamming any of your threads with derogatory remarks?:D

your opinion is your opinion, but sometimes its best to keep it to yourself, your offending people on here and there is no real need for it is there !!
