How does an intake resonator work?

I was looking at the engine for the Ferrari F12 and it has extansions on the intake plenums.
I assume from the name they provide some sort of resonance supercharging effect.
anybody have info on how this actually works?
Were any other engines ever equipped with such a thing?

could an ITB'd or RS2'd be equipped/bodged with something like this to boost torque?
(I assume this would only work in a certain rpm range?)

If so, I noticed exactly the same thing.

Good find mate.
Been teading up on it myselfit seems most americans tend to remove then as they perceive them to lose power.
They seem to do the opposite add power through harmonic wave charging......at a loss of some induction sound though
