How does this system look ?

Im still being a ***** about the whole £1000 for a box that sits in the corner situation, and ive narrow'd it down to this from what people on OCUK have said. Does this s**t look okay?

It will be going in an antec 300 case, which OCUK guys rekon will be fine as people claim to have 5870's sat in them. Im hoping to get the i5 to 4GHz, and maybe crank the ram up a little further along with the 5870 i have there.

Is that £199 i see for what is effectively 2 sticks of ram with some fancy numbers next to it to make it look impressive? Thats insane I wouldn't pay that, your not getting £199's worth of performance from them no way.

Rest of it sounds good although i'm not a fan of Watercooling systems mainly because I just don't like the idea of putting the enemy of all things electrical inside my case. I also wouldn't personally go for Radeon cards but thats personal choice really.

No thats for 4 sticks of 2GB, so 8GB. £99 a pair.

As for ATI, well meh, ive alwyas had nvidia cards cept for a 9800XT back in't day.

Yeh drrollo i wasn't saying it was bad to have watercooling, its just something i don't like the sound of myself.

Oh i see yeh didn't see you had quantity 2. thats not so bad then.

The Corsair water cooling thing is a sealed set up it comes prefilled. No need to find pure water it is already inside it. You just attach the radiator to a 120mm fan point, install the 120mm fan on the radiator. And then attach it to the CPU like any other heatsink. That's it. Job done.

Water inside if it leaks, which it shouldn't. Won't cause any problems. You could pretty much run your system submerged in the stuff.

New ATI cards are the only way to go as well. The Nvidia cards the latest ones aren't out yet. They are also £450 - £500+ for the same level of performance as the £300 ATI cards, can preorder the GTX 470 and 480 already. They are also extremely power hungry, hot and difficult to make. Why Nvidia kept putting them back. Think they have also already pissed people off with the PhysX thing. Now releasing a card that is simply not that good £ to performance wise yet costs the earth to run due to power requirements isn't winning them any favours. The GTX480 is quite happy to sap 400w of power on its own just mental. They also run very close to 100 degrees C under load. Even at idle they are hotter than the ATI card is under load.

Water cooling is safe as houses if done right but if you are going to do it then go custom and put in your own setup. I was going to get one of these "kits" but after plenty of research on the net it was easy enough to go it alone :).

Here is mine....

and how it is now

I use a premixed coolant with is 100% none conductive. On one of the WC forums one guy unfortunately did have a leak and the coolant pooled on various major components in the case but absolutely nothing happened, just goes to show it works :).

Have you already got a case or are you looking at a new one, if you do go down the WC route then the case will play a major factor as it will need to be suitable for what you want to do.

Sorry just re-read your original post. Antec 300, you will probably have to go outside the case like mine or get a small enough rad to fit inside with a drain point.

Price. I totted up an I7 system which was a beast with the same GPU but ive decided against it. Was about £300 more.

true, sorry, i actually changed the components so i could go with DDR3 Tri, and the i7. But then the motherboard does support i7 .........
