How easy to check for play in driveshafts?

  FormulaFord Ecoboost
I've done a search and I've determined that one of the driveshafts needs replacing.

Before I get my hands dirty, how easy will it be to figure out which side is buggered? Do I need to get it up on jacks or can it be done on the ground?

I'm in two minds whether to take it to the garage and then get them to order the part or work it out, order the part myself and then take it into the garage.

Cheers :)

From what I've been told jack up front end on axle stands and check for in/out movement. There should be little to no movement on the shaft
