How far should a CV boot rubber sit?

Basically, I swapped both clips out today (even though only one needed doing) and repacked the boots with some Comma CV/moly grease.

But I'm unsure as to how far the rubber boot comes 'back on' before applying the clip? I put both new clips back on to the same position as the originals, but given as grease has escaped before now, should the boot be pushed on further?

I noticed it could probably slide forward a further half-inch or so, but I thought that would stress the rubbers too much on full lock? By that, the rubber itself could be split over time?

If they need pushing on further, I'll jack the front end up again tomorrow and get them better seated. :)

Cheers,
D.

they kind of find a natural point to sit at once they're on past the lip. Get those clips on good and tight, they're a pain in the arse

Nice one. That's where I've sat them at the moment. There's like a 'notch feel' when sat correctly.

I did tighten them quite well - not too much though in fear of over-screwing the thread on the clip. Should be good enough for the time being, but I'll be keeping my eye on them!

Thanks again for your help on this, Danny. :approve:
