How long do insurance companies take to sort claims out?

  DCi
I was involved in a wee incident at the beginning of Feb 09.

Basically we agreed I would pay for the damage as it was so small.
Now he has put a whiplash claim in as the police didn't come to the scene he thinks it's worth a cheeky punt (I highly doubt he has whiplash)

I pretty much only agreed to pay cash for the damage because it would be considerably cheaper than losing my NCD. (If he had insisted insurance I would have said he was to blame - which is what has happened)

In summary:

we both have put statements in saying the other person was at fault, about a month ago, when can I expect to hear some form of result?

It all depends which part of the car you/he hit, if he hit the rear 1/3 of your car then it should be decided in your favour.

Yip could turn out in your favour mate.
Could take a long time if you're disputing 50/50!
I'm an assessor believe me!

Mine took months to sort and that was simple with a woman pulling out of a side street into the rear 1/4 of my van. Could take ages mate.

The whole rear 1/3 of the car nearly bit me big style. A couple of years ago I got cut up on a dual carriageway by some dozy b**ch, pulled into my lane without indicating and slammed the brakes on. Insurance said it was my fault because I hit the back of her car :dead:. Luckily the only damage was cosmetic and I paid for a respray on her rear bumper.

My last accident, the woman decided to blame me for her pulling out infront of me. Made 2 stories which I could quickly prove wrong with photographic evidence too and her insurance company finally backed down when the police report came through. Took 7 months for the police report even though at the scene they said it was her fault, and a further 2 months to sort negotiations between insurance companies for the pay out.

So without a police report, I'd say 50:50 is your best option tbh. Better to go through insurance if they're chatting about injury now. If you go private, you could be liable and that could be mega bucks mate. My first accident was similar to yours, agreed private repair to save NCB, then she wants physio treatment, my dad told her to f**k off and I lost NCB. That took a couple of months as my insurance company accepted liability as they wouldn't defend me in court because I hit the rear of her car as she stopped in the middle of a junction for no reason after setting off. I accept now it was my fault though.

If you agreed to pay for the damage, what do the insurance company have to do with it?

Did you get him to sign somthing saying he would accept £X in full settlement of the accident on XX/XX/XXXX?
