How long do tyres last?

As above, I've never owned a car long enough to go through a set of tyres!

Is 1 year/10000 miles good? Bad? Average?

Depends on your driving really. My dad only does motorway miles and gets 15k plus out of his tyres!

My track car did a set in in 3 days! lol

I'd say a 'normal' human being should see somewhere between 10-12,000 miles out of a decent set of tyres.

  A special one.
Depends on what make i guess, budget ones don't last long.

I would say 10 - 12k from a pair of fronts depending on your driving style

Depends on a load of variables, torque, driving style, how enthusiastic a driver you are, I know someone who goes through a set of rears in 4k miles.

Mine last circa 12k

My Pzero Nero's have lasted a year and covered just over 10000 miles. Mostly travelling to/from work, occasional spirited driving but have also been around Europe/Nurburgring on two occasions.

Sounds like the above is about right then. I just noticed that they're on the markers the other day - I didn't think I'd had them that long! :dapprove:

Ahh yes the on Citroen Relay van had its rear tyres changed for the first time at over 70k

T1r's 3 weeks. Joking, but i think they are the worst tyres going, the sides wear down in no time. I had some of the michelins on a set of turinis i bought, they probably had about 4mm when i bought them and they still lasted well over a year for me. Supose thats why they are around £140 a tyre though.

Covered around 5,000 miles on my Conti SC3's and they still have lots of tread left.. Depends on driving style but I agree with circa 10-12,000 miles on the front.

i've read that the soft sidewalls ruin the cornering/ride....or is that just rubbish?

Best tyres i have ever had on my clio, it felt so safe with them on. And they were second hand due to being on the turinis i bought, they had around 4mm.

4mm tread michelin> brand new t1r's

Normally get about 14k out of fronts and 35k rears On My 1.4 16 valve Have continentals on there atm Dad has Mk3 clio dci 86 he gets 12k out of fronts. Think its the extra torque that wears the tyres out a bit quicker he does not corner fast lol.

The Continentals when i got my first 172 lasted 7500 miles . Replaced with Toyo T1-S's which lasted about 8000 miles , replaced with T1-R's , same about 8000 miles ( God knows why when i never really liked the S's , i think it was the price that swayed me at the time ) Michelin PE2's last about 9000 miles on my 182 which were a massive improvement over the Toyos imo . Currently on Uniroyal Rainsport 2's which i think are the best tyres out of all the above , first set lasted me 12,000 miles . All these tyres were on the front . Got PE2's on the rear at the moment and they've done about 24,000 miles with loads of tread left .

Would the Rainsports be any good on track? Like just occasional use...

Never been on the track so can't comment . For the road in the wet and dry they really do instill confidence when pushing on . The only thing i can say about the Rainsports is that the tyrewalls do seem a little bit softer , so i upped the pressure to 36 psi which made alot of difference . You can get them for about 75 quid a corner , so quite cheap too .

My Pirelli Pzero Nero lasted me around 14k and about 16 1/4 mile runs. They got driven on fairly hard. They were fantastic.

I had Pilot sport 3s on for around 3k and they were down to 4mm but I didn't rate them that highly personally.

I think I'll swap my front's with the rears when I've done about 7000 miles on them. I like to replace all four at once so that should give reasonably balanced wear.

My dad managed to get 50,000 out of a set of bridestones on the rear of his fiesta. He drives very sedately though.

Surprised the side walls didn't start cracking!

Bad Idea. You need to have Just as Much Grip from rear tyres if Not more mate. Last Thing You want is the rear end to lose grip suddenly On surface water.
