How long should my 172 last?

  182 cup
What sort of milage should I expect from my 172 providing its serviced regulary?

I mean before it starts costing me and arm and a leg on replacement parts?

im thinking about 120k?

Engine should go on and on with regular servicing, some on here with way past 120k

Rest of the car will go on as long as you're prepared to replace worn components!

think my power steering is on its way out and im only on 73k.

Been looking at the deletion kit but weighing up the cost of that to a new pump

Running mine till it dies most prob then breaking it for parts, just replaced the leads, plugs, coilpack, injectors & fuel cable (my fault tho!), :( Be more worried about the box going, so factor in around £300 for a rebuild plus the removing and refitting, engine in general are decent considering most are driven how they are meant to be :)

Mines on just under 130k now. I've just had a gearbox re-con and clutch changed (the clutch was still fine mind)

The engine still pulls very well though

my 02 172 has 113500 its had two timing belts fitted and a clutch pulls harder than my mates 54 plate 182 with 44k on clock

I dont even think you can put a number to it! There is no reason why an engine wont do 200k! maybe more! The only thing you may have to do is to have a head rebuild, however after that then it will be good to go. Just depends how well its been looked after etc.

The rest of the car is just a case of replacing components as and when they need doing, until you practically end up with a new car lol

The quesiton is about "how long before it's not financially viable"

I have started looking at my 172, realising it's worth more to me than it is to sell. Whatever car you go for (aside from new ones), you'll be paying to replace parts so thrashing out a fistful of caps on another motor just because you're staring down a repair bill wont stop another similar bill coming in only a few months later.

ive just bought my 172 and while i was looking i saw a completely standard 172 on ebay with 200,350 miles! the only thing listed as being wrong with it was the passenger seat no longer went backward/forward and the airbag light was on. was last owner for 8 years. Just shows what good maintenance can do for any car.

Regular oil changes
belts / dephaser
engine & box mounts
CV boots
top mounts
no whining crunching from box

if you can tick all of them it'll see the end of time. Possibly. lol ;)
