How long should rear discs last...

During a free "health check", garage told me that my rear discs are "badly scored"

Cost £340 not covered by warranty. Car was 9 mths old (5000 miles)when I got it, now 10,000, 9 months later. Is it reasonable that the discs need replacing already? What is scored?

Can they tell how bad is bad? that is, can they tell me how long they will last before I have to replace them, or does badly scored mean I should replace them immediately

thanks

Rear discs, bearings and ABS rings are roughly £130 and will take less than an hour to fit for a start.

I just replaced mine from new - they did 38,000 miles!

Price seems way too much even if they do need changing.

Went back to dealer who contacted Renault. They will pay most of the discs but not the pads.

Been told that my current pads are okay however if you replace discs then you put on new pads-and I have to pay for the pads/labour--(total £125)

I assume "scoring" meant that the pads would have been worn as well, but no-one has replied to explain what it means!-(have tried searches)......I dont understand

also--if my pads are currently okay then should I just leave the discs until they have to be replaced...how long would that be ?

could someone also explain how the discs could have got so bad/how did they get "scored"

thanks

sounds like their are some scores in the disks like when a stone gets trapped in the disk. i would get a second opinion from an independant garage 10k and they should be nicely bedded in

Id take them up on thier offer, but try and knock it down a bit, and ask how long does the offer stand ie do it at the last possible moment and keep the old pads for use later.

thanks for replies

16v....is it likely that stones would be trapped in both--dont suppose it matters but just interested

fubar--thanks for guide-seems very clear however I would not attempt this without a "qualified" assistant/supervisor!

Stuv6-offer lasts a week
