how many miles should u run in the cup 4

Apparantly so. Renault engines are supposedly quite tight from new. I kept mine under 3500rpm for 400m, under 4000rpm until 500m, under 5000rpm until 600m and Im now keeping it under 6000rpm until 700m. Then Ill go chasing stuff :D

Im a big believer in running vehicles in. My stepped method is to check that the engine is OK as you start to rev it more and more. Worked OK on my bike and seems to be OK on the Cup.

The noise you get when the VVT kicks in around 5000rpm is addictive as hell!!

oh yes... mine is going beserk from about 16k miles

i ran mine in for about 1000 miles and went up by 500 revs every 50 miles after that..

and it is deadly that noise...

I took it easy, below 3500 rpm up to 625 miles, then I had the occasional thrash until around 700 - 800, by which time I was driving it how its going to get driven for the rest of its ownership by me, hard. ;)

ave got 650 miles on clock at the mo

Go out a run, wait for about 15 minutes so that the oil is fully heated up, then bounce it off the limiter in every gear.. :D

i know mine is only a 1.2, but it is stil a renault

personally gave mine death from new (7 miles on clock) car feels lively (for a 1.2) and pulls pretty cleanly through the range

its all about how you feel about driving your car

engines that are driven hard from new tend to be slightly higher powered than ones that were run-in thoroughly, but dont last as long

The only thing about ragging it from brand new is the gearbox, brakes and everything else needs to bed in properly, not just the engine.

I agree with you here mate and when my new Cup arrives in about a week, I will be following a similar running in method...

Then at 1000 miles I plan to do an oil & filter change and then I will be giving it full beans!

Having stripped and re-built engines myself in the past, I aint gonna just jump in and nail it from new.

oh, and VVT kicks in at 2000rpm, not 5.
Yeah, the 5k rpm kick is the car coming "on cam" and not VVT

I was told today that i wont need to run my new car in or do an oil change till 12k miles. Now that cant be good..

I pretty much nailed mine straight away but I did get the oil changed after 1200 miles for mobile 1.

If you see how much sh!t there is in the oil after youve run an engine in, youd wanna change it fast...

Sorry guys - didnt mean to get my VVT and on cam mixed up

Rich-D - Im also going to get an oil change at 1000 miles. Im not happy with leaving the oil full of crappy metal in my car for a year.

technically you wouldnt really be leaving your car full of metal.. what do you think the filter is for ?

but ye, change it at 1000 miles if it makes you sleep easier ;)

Surely the filter will be really clogged after running in a notoriously tight Renault engine?

I WILL sleep better, thanks :)

lol and you peopel wonder why you have warrenty issues.

rag it if you like being a muppet or run it in if you want it to last.

Before anyone kicks off I have ran in countles engines and they have all lasted and the power output has always been roughly the same after 100k or so.

So I know what I am on about.

Also new engine run the thing for 20 mins cut the filter in 2 then see whats in there and also if you rag it after 20 misn you may find the bypass in the filter has opened and let the crap through or the paper has ruptured.

60,000 mile 3yr warranty - who cares about running it in. (I did and I think it could be better - unless Ive just got used to the mental performance?)

Wouldnt mind swapping with someone else to find out!!!

Its only a two year warranty for me, I do 30k a year. Thatll be nice and relaxing in a cup then!

Ill be running mine in for the first 1k then Ill put fully synth oil in it and keep doing this every 6k.

Thats five times a year!
