How many miles would a 172 engine clock up before they die?
Just out of interest.
Stupid question i know but just wondering before i make my final decision to switch!
Cheers Steve
Off topic but I was looking on Autotrader today at Mk2 golfs, some for sell with over 200K on the clock. Could you see a Renault doing that?

I could see the engine doing that if properly serviced yeah.....just expect to find a completely different car surrounding it after everything else has failed and been replaced...
Personally i would'nt buy a car with over 50k on it.People have said that 100k on a car, if maintained well, isnt a problem, but tbh i wouldnt risk it.
Is it not true hat some Volvos have clocked close to 1 million? I do think over 100K your asking for trouble unless you they have a FSH but then again you have to pay a premium for them and can probably get a car on 70K for the same price.

As long as its well serviced mate!

wtf
i have to agree that i wouldnt want to buy a high mileage car - my 182 has only 40k, yet i am looking at new 197s this weekend. I like to ideally keep a car thats in the 3 yr warranty.Agreed, wtf ??
If the negine was a small cc (say a 1.2) I could probably understand, but a 2.0 will see 100k no probs if looked after.

anyone who could only afford a very high milage 172 probably cant afford the insurance.
whats arse tripe about that? Sorry, your irony is too advanced for me.:lolup:i have to agree that i wouldnt want to buy a high mileage car - i am looking at new 197s this weekend. I like to ideally keep a car thats in the 3 yr warranty.
