How many MOT failure points!

Just for fun, how many points do you know or reckon your clio will fail on when it comes to the dreaded MOT.

I am totaly dreading my MOT. There is so much stuff needed to be done and changed for standard parts in order to pass the MOT.

Mine are:

Wheels:- To big and rub (will have to put standard on)

Exhaust:- De-Cat will need to be replaced with Cat.

Indicators:- White bulbs need replacing with orange.

Bonnet:- Bad boy cuts out to much light.

Lights:- Blue bulbs need replacing.

Sunstrip:- Maybe to deep, needs removing.

Shocks:- Got a warning a last MOT.

Brakes:- Definatly need new discs and pads.

Think thats it

Why will it fail on the wheels?

You only need to put the cat on if it fails the emissions test.

Some places may be ok on the bulbs and stuff, have you not got any mates in the trade who may let the things that are safe pass anyway such as the bad boy bonnet? As its not going to cause an accident is it? And it doesnt make the car dangerous to drive.

on a car newer than 91 you need a CAT, even if the cat put up you emissions you still need it (which it would do, but if it did)

No CAT

No Side Reapeaters

No Front No Plate

No Rear View Mirror

It is in the test book that you must have one on the car post 91

Col what do you reckon with the police etc keep my tiny super bike front plate on the front or not have one at all? Sorry have not hade chance to sort out a postage price for the spoiler.

My boss has not had one on his skyline for 9 months. I would say do not have one at all. Look sh!t. But get a standard one made up, cut it down but make sure it is still legal, put it in your glove box. Stopped by the Police

Police: Do you realise son you have no number plant on the front of the car

You: Yes officer, it just feel off, Im going to the shop to get some tape to stick it back on, as you produce the plate from your glove box

Thats my plan anyway.

No prob about the spoiler just let me know as soon as so i can get it painted!!!

well my cars Aug 92 registered, an when i had my MOT he did test it on emissions as though it had a cat, he then went under the car saw no cat, an came up sayin oh sorry no cat on this car, its passed....

he also said, it would need one if it was january 1993 registered or later, the HUGE poster behind him as i paid him, declared otherwise ! hehe

You do need it, i thought it was post 91 by may be post 93. You deffo need it on my car if you go to a NORMAL garage.

Thats good!!! I just need to stick a couple of things on for my MOT not a big deal. Need to sort out something for the side repeaters tho.

You dont need side repeaters mate, you cant fail for not having them but you can fail if they dont work!!

My grandpas car does not have any side repeaters but think it was made before side repeaters were used.

I have an MOT testers handbook - big folder which states all the check/fail points

You dont NEED a Cat as Colin says. Its a simple emissions test - if you pass without one - lucky you. If you dont - then the date rule comes in. Pre Aug 1992 youre alright - post Aug 1992 you need a cat and youll have to buy one. As long as they get the print out from the emissions machine thing (no idea what its called lol) which states your car as passing (its sent with a copy of your MoT to wherever they send them) then its as simple as that.
