How much do 17 s slow u down (valver)

  BMW 320d Sport

Its not even worth bothering about. Ive run 18s on my Clio before, it has been running for the last few years on 17s, theres not a lot in it. Youll just find that the speedo will read much more accurately or slightly under instead of over (i.e. if it says 100mph you could actually be doing 102)

A valver is a powerful enough car for it not to make a huge difference.

you probably wont notice it till you get to high speeds i lost about 10 mph on topend when i had the 17s on

its not all about perfromance, your car wasnt designed for 17" you will be putting extra strain on your balljoints, wheel bearings, wishbone bushes e.t.c and lets not forget your speedo will be out, if your car is lowered you may get wheel scrubbage .

You will not notice it mate, i went from 15s to 17s on my Hybrid, 16s to 17s on my 172 and 16s to 17s on my 182 and didnt notice anything.

Umm not so sure ul not notice, a mate of mine had 17s on his valver and then the next owner (another mate) decided to revert to 16s and he rekons there was a noticeble difference!!!

Ask waitey on here, he had 17s on his Valver and changed to 15s and he confirmed there was a noticeble difference too!!!

I fink its mainly low down the scale 1st n 2nd not the same (i find my car only wants to move like it should in 3rd and 4th).

But 17s look the best anyhow!!!;)

17s killed both my performance and handling on my old 16v. they looked the nuts, but swapping to 15s was the best thing i did!!! i would comprimise with 16s! i had 8 sets of wheels on and off that car, and 17s killed accelleration every time! 16s were ok, and 15s was the best by far! the 17s also weigh a fuking ton!!

the car felt slow and heavy, and the back end was out all the time!!

speak to glenn (the dude with the black willy converted valver) on this one, i remember him saying that hed never do it again, he said hes shaying on 15s & that 17s were awful.

Thye thing is going from 15s to 17s doesnt seem bad. Its when you put the 15s back on you notice the difference.

It totally throws the car off.

Riplash had them, and when he put 15"s back on, he said it was MUCH better.. handling especially.

This is where it gets me? I know 17s slow down your straight line speed but my valver handled so much better on 17s than on my 15s.

I even tested this. I couldnt corner anywhere near as fast.....

Ditto Tom, its probably down to the wider track of the 17s.

I have just put my Hybrid back on to 15" Turbines but not tested it yet. will post up if i notice any difference reverting back from 17s as i didnt notice any power loss fitting 17s.

why do 17s slow you down then? i thought the overall diameter will still be the same regardless of whether youre running 14s or 17s otherwise the speedo will need to be recalibrated? apart from the weight...why do 17s slow you down? and what is a valver?

whats the best size to get then? 15 or 16? i need to change my standard 14 steel wheels and i was gonna get 17s but if this is the case...can you please recommend a suitable size?

a valver is a 1.8 16v clio mate mk1.

17s on your car will make a big diff in acceleration. with higher powered cars, its not really that bad. handling is deffo affected too. looks mint tho! "Do it" :D

My point exactly, my first and second gear accelerations sh*t!!!

It comes back in the later gears tho and yes they do look good!!!
