How Much Fluid

  White Sti Hatch
How much Brake Fluid is required to bleed a full system after fitting braided lines ???

  Lots of Alfas
Its hard to say an exact amount. Renault say 0.5 litres but you'll waste a lot pumping it out until the bubbles stop and youll waste a little while changing the lines, when I did mine I used about 1 litre. For best results do it in this order: left rear, right rear. left front, right front. Make sure you keep the resorvoir topped up and never let it get empty so it sucks air in.

Just bog DOT 4 stuff thats in standard isnt it ??

Prob buy a litre and a bit just to be safe

just over 1L, the system dry takes 1.1L to completley fill IIRC

DO NOT DRAIN THE SYSTEM, just bleed it through otherwise you'll get air in the ABS = f**king hard to get out

sounds like this is going to be an intresting weekend lol !!!

Take it change a line top it up and move on till there all on and bleed once finished

Id replace 1 at a time, after you replace each one open the bleed screw on the caliper, put your 1 way bleeding bottle on and pump fluid through slowly until it comes out without any air or without any fluid with air bubbles. Then tighten the screw and move onto the next. Remember to keep an eye on the reservoir topping up as you go along

Revival of my own thread wooop !

Right im wanting to fit my lines tomoz if the weathers goodish ! looking at the lines in front of me and i cant work out how the hell lol one end is a screw and others an elongated nut pritty much and both are fixed, how the f**k you get them on without twisting the f**k out them ???

the 'nut' should have a female thread as well. screw the fronts into the caliper first, then the solid line union screws into the female end. the rears are female either end

  White Sti Hatch
i figured the caliper end first at the front but what about tightning up the other end onto the solid brake lines wont it just twist or am i missing something ?

have you got the hoses there? have a look - they should have an internal thread that the solid line union screws into

ed. that, or the solid line union nut will be female - depends on the car

i think ive just figured out the answer to my own question mate.

Im thinking that the thread on the Solid Brake Lines from the Res were "fixed" but there not are they they float on the pipe itself and the pipe end is flaird to stop them coming off ??

i've posted a guide on it mate, but waiting for the moderators to post it. You'll need 11mm, 14mm for removing the standard ones. and the same for refitting the new ones. 14mm just for holding while tightening with 11. Dead easy

it drips. I've been told that you can create a vacuum in the reservoir to stop it from dripping, but i didn't bother. Just put something under it. If you do want to prevent it, remove the reservoir cap, put a rubber glove tight over the hole and put and elastic band round it.

drip i dont mind i just though soon as you removed the seal on the hard line the fluid would just piss out the end, will have to borrow a friend for a few hours tomoz n get this sorted !

Any tips btw first time touching brake lines so anything would help :)

it will take you no more than an hour. No complications really. Just make sure they are tight when reattached. That they don't foul on the strut and wheel arch on full lock. Clean round the attachments and make sure no dirt gets into the fixings. ( the part where the line goes through the whole in the car are tight and dirty). Thats about it though. Fronts are miles easier, so do them first. Good luck :)

was planning on doing the fronts first, had a look at the rears n it looks like a right c**t !

just leave the cap on - it 'should' be sealed anyway. it's worth investing in an Easibleed (Halfords/£20) as well, as they make it so easy, and minimise fluid loss whilst bleeding

Got it done today fronts were a pain in the arse to be honest ! getting them to sit right in the bracket !!!

Easybleeder has to be the best invention like ever ! made my life easy lol all done myself in prob 2 hours i think.

Cheers for all the help that was givin !
