***How much is it worth?***

Wow. Where to start!

It’s actually £3800 but looks really nice, and being from a dealer you’ll get a warranty.
It says cam belt changed but I would find out when.
Needs the headlights refurbishing but you could negotiate for them to clean them up.
No nasties on the MOT history.
If the car is as good as described then definitely worth a viewing.

All good points. Ill check. The headlights ive done on my previous 182 and theyre easy done. I quite enjoyed doing it. Points for negotiation!

Looks good an honest. I would be asking who did the belts, if the water pump etc was done at the same time.

What brand tyres it has.

The gear lever gator base is broken and its clearly got none of the cup packs. I would hedge that 3k is a bit closer to the mark but I don't think you could grumple about apparent condition and miles.

I know tyres are an important one. Ill keep an eye out. thanks. Also, good point about the water pump. Ill check that too.

I saw the gear lever gator base. Easy fix. Points for negotiation! Could you expand on the no cup packs. Its been a while since I had my 182 and cant remember how to diferentiate!

There is also one at woodchurch cars - 1 owner, blue, fsh etc. for £3.5k asking - its a shame they are a 4 hour roundtrip away! Honestly if you want a car to keep forever and see the value appreciate then 1 owner cars are the way to go - all the mechanical bits you can do as a project over many years if you’re that way inclined!

Ill have a look! No idea where that is but worth a look. Good points otherwise!

One owner, 50,000 miles.

I would go and view that black one in the morning if l was you.
They will probably have fitted cheap tyres but you could always try them first, you might find they are fine....but if needed buy some new ones and sell the cheap tyres on Ebay.
People always like one owner cars, but the one owner 22,000 mile 182 l viewed had not been looked after.

You need to view it in person. Ask to see the V5 “to check chassis numbers” and note the name of the previous keeper.

Call them up and ask about the car!

I would go and view it if I could! Work..... But im planning on it sunday.

Tyres I like to change anyway (Unless theyre PS3's) and im happy to do so if theyre cheapies. Makes such a difference.

Re the Logbook. I didnt know they kept the previous owners number on a logbook?

Number of owners (as long as its not silly) has never ever put me off buying a car.

Condition and miles has a far greater impact.

I've got to be honest with you and say that it is never ever easy buying a car when you already know exactly what you want. It could take you some time to find the perfect (head image matching) car at the price you want.

A mate has recently spent 7 months viewing cars (some pretty good but not perfect) before he found the one he wanted. Was well worth the wait for what he was spending etc.

If you budget, condition expectation, spec is flexible then good cars are easy to come by. You have an M5? I know people who have viewed over 10 M5's before they found the 'right one' and feel that it is some what par for the course - ie don't be disheartened.

Great points. That being said, spending time in the motor trade makes you so sinical that if you dont budge youll never buy any car lol.

To sound like a bit of a knob here but its a Clio not an E-Type. Don't mentally justify no cup packs etc because its got 1 owner on the log book and not 3. The miles I whole heartedly get!

Fair points. So you would rather have one with both cup packs and higher miles? Just curious to see how important they make a car!

1 owner or 1 previous owner?

Very very good point. Often a sneaky dealer tactic. Noted, thank you!

Maybe, but then it could be a money pit.

The details are very sparse on actual facts, not an invoice in sight, and they cannot even get the colour correct.

I`d start by asking why the EML is on, and if all the tyres are the same fitment.

Again, great points, thank you. I saw the EML light and the guy I spoke to didnt know much about the specifics. He probably went to check after the call ended. I have an OBD scanner so that will be coming with me to check for anything. That being said, its worth checking out for sure!

Any car can be a money pit unfortunately. As above, someone viewed a 22k Clio only for it to be badly looked after. Its a case of looking for anything obvious I suppose.

Colour is confusing for dealers. Theyre meant to know their stuff but i've experienced main dealers who cant even get their colours right. Prestige too! Its no biggie for me.

Tyre fitment is a good one. Ill keep an eye out for sure, thank you!

In regards to all the details, you are spot on. There isnt much in the way of specifics. Ill be sure to have that salesman working hard showing me every single receipt and bit of paper. Cheers!

I'm pretty fresh here my self. There are two cup packs, spoiler (including front splitter and rear larger spoiler) and the suspension pack which is different shock absorbers, front hubs and springs as well as Anthracite wheels. All of it can be added but it goes against the providence comment made above.

No, I would choose lower miles over the cup packs. However I would not pick lower owners over miles/condition or specification.

For an older car I would also probably choose miles over condition, as long as the condition issues were easily resolvable (no crash damage or rust). Condition and specification can be resolved later, miles cannot.

These are just my views on the subject, not in the motor trade but generally buy based on what I know I can sell in the future without loosing money. Obviously if you can have all of the above (spec/condition/miles) for a reasonable price then your winning. Just depends how far you want to take the subject really. If this was an E-Type or similar people would be all over low owners and matching engine numbers like a wet dream. However in this case, for quite a low outlay, and minimal chance of the cars substantially appreciating over the next few years I would choose what looked to be the most fun at the lowest risk and just enjoy it!

Thanks for the reply. I think all of what you've said is in line with what I was thinking. At the end of the day its going to be a second car and a bit of fun. But I just want to know everything before parting with my hard earnt £!

Looking at the MOT history, it suggests to me that it has a hard life in London traffic, has not coped well with the pot holes & speed bumps, and been run on a shoestring budget.

Which car are you referring to? Landymans or the Black one for sale?

If you are referring to the Black one I can see why you might think its been pothole abused. But, what English car hasnt lol. Why do you say shoestring budget though?

Okay so. The black one is off the cards. I wont be, as some one above so perfectly put it, "throwing the dealer under the internet bus" but theres something fishy about this black one. All seems fine until you read more into the Dealer who doesnt appear to be very 'amicable'. Also, if you look closely one of the pictures has the EML blurred out. Naughty.

I think im gonna give that one a miss for viewing for both those reasons. However, ill be going to look at the Blue one that @RandomGuy suggested. So far, it looks good. Anyone see anything wrong?

The black one in SE London.

Regularly presented for MOT with broken springs, under or close to the limit tyres & brake pads.

The clutch has probably taken a hammering too, along with shocks & suspension bushes.

View it, but don`t be surprised if under the shine, it`s a dog.

  PH2 172
Regarding Cup packs.

The rear spoiler is neither here or there, and the 3rd brake light is NLA, either OE or aftermarket.

The 60mm bolt spaced front shocks have never been available as after market items and the OE items (8200681109) are now being punted off the shelves, on a

2 for 1 basis @ £71.84 the pair, suggesting that they will be NLA in the near future.

This would then leave your only option to refresh the suspension as expensive coilovers, and get up the noses of the purists that knock it if it`s not OE factory

spec.

Not to mention that whatever advantage the Cup pack suspension supposedly offered has gone down the drain by 40k miles, as it`s knackered.

I`d knock the price if a car has Cup packs. ?

  Land Rover
As for tyres
Mine has four brand new PS3’s on it.
And both Cup packs
With Eibach springs and newish Cup dampers
And a nice private plate (although l have been told it’s not a selling point)

There is still a huge demand for these, and if it isn’t selling your price is too high, simple. My flamer sold in less than an hour to a guy that came from Dunkirk, and then I was getting offers for it almost everyday after selling for two weeks.

  Land Rover
If that’s what happened then yours was sold at too low a price!!
Not that it matters, you got what you wanted for it.

I think the main problem with me is that everyone who has been interested is too far away.
The last guy was on the South Coast....a day’s round trip.

TBH yours is absolutely lush. Its near on exactly how I would want mine. But you are right, you are so far away. Plus, you've already done all the things I plan to do to my new one! Takes some of the fun out of it. However, if I didnt want to do all that and had unlimited time I would be straight up there. You'll sell it no problem.

Well, apparently the other person cannot come until tomorrow morning now - so he asked me to wait until then. I got fed up and told him that I'm withdrawing my offer and will look elsewhere. He did the usual you won't find a better car etc. Clowns.

Will come back to this next year as can't be asked to mess around or drive around the country or overpay. Plenty of other cars to try - maybe i'll go down the lotus route!

All the best gents, been a pleasure :)

Where are you based anyway?

That way we keep an eye out for something local for you.

Has it got to be a RB182?

Nice car that though. I've been looking at it. What do you think of the price though? I felt it was a bit strong but I've been away from these cars for a while

Hence my comment on the interior, 5k is way to much. Its just a standard clio thats been polished. Belts, brakes and servicing are mandatory and dont add on huge value to the car which this guy thinks is the case. Clean up the interior and maybe 3k+

Edit: of course belts are costly but everything else is quite cheap

I agree entirely. I didn't want to post a leading question but its 'just' a standard clio. You are so right. What's going on with these at the moment. Is everyone thinking theirs is collectable?

I don`t think the 182 offers any great improvement over a 172.

In fact I prefer the stealth exhaust look.

You have probably seen this, but it is £2K less.

Thinking of selling my phase 1. Well, I am selling it as I need the room in my garage.

Iceberg, 56k, belts have couple of years left, interior is in good condition with a refurbed steering wheel.
Exterior has a few marks and a slight crack in the passenger wing.
Lowered on springs and some sort of powerflow exhaust.

What we looking at?

You could go down the route of coming to look at my “overpriced” 182 lol
You are starting to find out the same as l did....genuinely good ones are hard to find.

Lotus, well yes, l had an Elise S2, great car but good ones start at four times the price of a good Clio 172/182.

You could put it up on eBay as a classified ad @ £4495?

Just don`t say nothing can wrong with it! ?

I will put it on PH in the spring. Probably at the same price as on here.
I realise now that £3-4,000 is the most these will fetch.
They are just not worth any more yet, as they are only just becoming sought after. Another few years will see the genuine good ones selling for maybe £5,000.

I doubt they will ever become the next Williams/R5 Turbo.

There are some silly prices being asked for the Trophy version, but none are selling at these prices.
I called three of the “sold” adverts asking if they had a similar vehicle and on all three the original one had miraculously become available for sale again, due to “circumstances”

I would disagree, as there are no new small NA fun cars being made.
