Boxes aren't that bad in them! You can pick em up for £350ish on ebay anyway with 12 month warranty!

I love the 197, great shape and Albi Blue is gorgeous. Fact is the gearbox is utter s**t even when working and the Mpg is shocking for the kind of car it is.

I loved my nimbus and it was still on the original box after 56k. I'd have another one no problem.

This, would've been a great car to put the 1.6 turbo in out of the 200t.

Can can someone give me a rough idea what mine is worth?

58 Plate
1.2 TCE
38,000 miles
MOT till December 2014
Tax till May 2014
Full Renault service history
All tyres with very good

Few bad points: two alloys badly marked (other two are spotless), a few chips on the front bumper/bonnet, also has the odd scratch here and there

Clio 182 54 Plate I'm considering buying?

Hi,
I've located a Black 54 plate Clio 182 with FSH & 40,000 miles on the clock & Anthracite Wheels.
Not seen the car in the flesh but it's at a reputable sounding dealer with some other genuine looking cars.
The dealer wants £3495 for the car & has agreed to do the cambelt/dephaser/water pump with no charge as they're due this year.
Does that sound a good deal for a 10 year old 182?
I'd be happier with £2995 & would be interested in any views/comments from experienced 182 owners/enthusiasts.

Cheers

Re: Clio 182 54 Plate I'm considering buying?

The garage is likely to not know how to do the belts properly. I would get it for cheaper and get the belts done at a specialist.

Has it got FSH? Who last did the belts? Any pics.. not a bad price for a dealer car but id want to see them do the belts.

Approach with caution. Doing all that at no cost and he's eating up most of his margin.
That'd make me question his credibility. By that I mean that he probably thinks he can send it to his "mechanic" for a couple of hours to throw on an OEM-spec belt etc.
For a couple of hundred pounds all in.
Ask him, where would the work be done and is he aware of the time and cost involved?
Otherwise, you may be posting on here asking how to rectify timing that's out and whether you can re-use the belt and dephaser they put on.

Sounds better to me & then get them done by a specialist.

Re: Clio 182 54 Plate I'm considering buying?

I dunno why but low mileage cars make me suspicious. I'd be all over the service history and as above get the belts done at a specialist if it's any good and get him down in the price

Never buy a car on mileage, always on the condition.

Re: Clio 182 54 Plate I'm considering buying?

Thanks guys for your helpful advice.I was only thinking the same myself ie.get the 182 cheaper & get a specialist to do the belts/dephaser if necessary & water pump as it's the cars 2nd cambelt change. The car's in Cornwall & I'm in Manchester, not the best situation!
I went to look at another identical 2 owner from new one last week in Northwich but was put off by a very, very heavy clutch pedal which I was told is due to the clutch being on it's last legs!
Keep you posted on how I go on & really appreciate your interest.
I'll be joining Clio Sport very soon!

Re: Clio 182 54 Plate I'm considering buying?

Cornwall is a massive treck from Manchester so I would leave alone as you need to be sure it's good. You could either try to get someone off here who is local to go and have a look for you or your best bet if you want a decent 182 is to become a full member and get one off Steve at r-sport cars.

Damn right. I bought my 182 from Steve and its fantastic, by far the best 1*2 I've owned (from 3). He's got a BG and LY up for sale at the mo. They're up for more than the car you've mentioned here, but for peace of mind its worth every penny.

Re: Clio 182 54 Plate I'm considering buying?

Thanks Ben/Stu for that advice. The car does look exceptional but I'll probably ask on here if anyone local could go & have a quick look at it.
I'll have a look what Steve at r-sport has on offer as well.
I'm probably going today for a test drive of another black 54 reg one in Northwich.
Viewed it earlier this week & noticed that the clutch pedal was very stiff but want to try it on the road.
Incidentally, I became a full member yesterday by the way!

Re: Clio 182 54 Plate I'm considering buying?

Yep - you do get used to the stiff clutch though. Bit of a shock getting back into it after driving anything else :)

Re: Clio 182 54 Plate I'm considering buying?

Was told by a technician on here that stiff clutch pedal is a sign that the clutch is on it's way out!
He said that a new Clio 182 has one of the lightest pedal actions of any cable clutch!
Going for a road test in the Black 182 in Northwich this afternoon hopefully, that's if a guy who's viewing the car about now doesn't buy it!
Keep you posted. Thanks top all of you for your interest.

Re: Clio 182 54 Plate I'm considering buying?

I was pretty sure that the pedal was a lot higher when the clutch was on its way out ? I could be wrong though.

Clutch is definitely heavy in Clio 182's... but as said, you soon get used to it.
