how much is my mac worth..

  306 TD Slut

Im looking to upgrade to a latest Imac In order to get the cash I need to sell my current one.

Not sure how much its worth now, probably not a lot.

Bought it for £1000 back in May 05.

Heres the spec. pretty average.

iMac G5 20-inch 2GHz size
512MB DDR400 SDRAM (1 DIMM)
250GB HD
SuperDrive (DVD-RW/CD-RW)
Keyboard/MAC OSX-B
Accessory Kit w/ Modem-B

its in mint condition, still has plastic cover on the stand, no problems with it what so ever.

any ideas how much it could go for?

I have looked on ebay but theres not many and the ones there have low starting price, so doesn’t really give an idea.

I'm a PC guy through and through at home for gaming and stuff - but for my design work and Pre-press you really can't beat a mac! just feels strange on a PC.

i prefer macs, by far, but i just feel like im getting screwed out of money when buying one as could get better spec for less money.

It's the 'ol bitter and lager argument with Macs and PCs. Never the two agree! ;)

Must admit, for £1,169 though, the PC spec you could afford would be very good indeed.

That's pretty much the spec of my iMac and I love it :) Far better than the PC's I'd previously owned and those I use at work.

Yes you can get a good PC for the same cash but it's still ruined by Vista or XP. If you really needed either of those OS then they run perfectly on a iMac anyway.

my machine runs XP and stays up for weeks at a time and very rarely crashes.

I wasn't talking of crashing machines, just that I find Windows to be slow and clunky on most PC's I've used or owned.

don't really find that on mine and it's got a lot of crap loaded on it.

i did find the increase from 1gb to 2gb ram helped quite a bit.

Admittedly I'm sure that would help greatly. It's a PC I use all day everyday at work so I'm not totally against them but for home use I prefer OSX.

same here, i am not once sided at all, my pc at work has 2gb ram, dual core and is much faster than my mac, as u can tell from the spec above. but my bro has the intel duo mac and its alot quicker!

Theres actually very little difference between similar spec machines running OSX and XP when there setup correctly. 9 times out of 10 people load up loads of crap on windows machines which bogs it down.

But seeing benchmarks that were the same programs etc its pretty much identical which ever system you use. Hence routine maintenance of a PC helps as does getting rid of unwanted processes.

I'm just not a fan of OSX dont like the interface.

You can always tick the little 'completed items' tickbox down the left on ebay to see the final figures of what things fetched - pretty useful for working out whether it's worth selling stuff!

  A blue one.

Your mac from 05 is worth considerably more than a PC of the same age though, so you're effectively getting a much better return on it and a lowering the price of a replacement mac.

true, suppose i didnt think of it like that. i've just wiped it clean, its nice and fresh now, with only adobe creative suite on it and macromedia. lovely :)

i will probably end up waiting until july august until i upgrade, see if there is a new iMac due for release.
