How much movement should I feel through the gear stick on a 172

  Clio 172 ph2
I can feel quite a noticeable amount of movement through my gear stick when I lift off, or let the clutch out quickly on my (new to me) 172.

I've had my local garage (not a specialist) check the gearbox mounts and they say that they are fine and I should expect movement as normal on this car because of the big ish engine and the mounts are soft.

Are they correct? Is movement normal with the standard mounts? Can it be rectified with aftermarket mount kits?

I would recommend fitting powerflex bushes on your dog bone mount. Definitely reduces movement in the gear stick.

This. Massively improves, but will then stress gearbox and topmount, so keep an eye on them.

Make sure you know, Phs1 is a straight dogbone, Phs2 is twisted. You will need to confirm when ordering.

KAM still do these at a good price I believe
