Well... I don't drink, don't smoke, I'm old, have worked hard and got a good job/career and have a partner who also likes performance cars. I enjoy my gadgets and technology, along with a bit of digital photography, but the rest of my disposable income pretty much goes towards my Trophy. It's a hobby (driving as opposed to out-and-out modding of the Trophy) and seeing as I am never selling it I can take time to ensure I get the mod's I want and that I don't have to get into debt to pay for them. It also helps that I'm old. Oh, I've already said that. Seems I'm also a bit forgetful these days... :D If money is tight then I probably wouldn't recommend blowing it on modding a Clio.

I could buy a lot more goodies for the race car if I wanted, but it's a little bit of fun, and not the be all and end all of my life.

Treat it as a hobby and only allow myself to spend so much a month on it.

Be strong.

Steel everything, or cut it,bend it,weld it, drill it,hit it with big hammer till it fits.
Keeps the costs right down ha

I can see a lot of people in here saying just do it yourself etc etc.

That's all well and good until you blow an engine up on a car you rely on for daily commuting. Pay the monies and get the job done properly I say.

Unless its just a toy that spends half its time in a garage then I guess there no problem experimenting and learning as you go.

Cheque book racers = :quiet: Thats just my personal opinion!

I dont know why more people dont learn to work on their cars themselves rather than take it somewhere for even the smallest of jobs. I can understand major operations though for alot of people are very daunting.

Also paying people to do things doesnt always mean its done right in my experience :nono:

Lad round here bought an ex JamSport RS Focus, runs about 550/600bhp.

All well and good until he has to pay a fortune and cart it 200miles to be fixed. I have no respect for him and that car because he didn't build it. Really good modified cars are the ones that have had all nighters on them and your own blood shed from scraping your hand on something!

I've had no proper tutoring at all, completely self taught and managed to wire up and ECU and fitted a supercharger.

That's a very narrow minded view.

For me, if I spend £500 on labour getting my mechanic to do something that takes a weekend, I could be at work. At work, I could earn £2000 in a weekend.

It's all relative.

I've never had any proper tutoring, just picked things up from an early age, starting with basics like changing oil, brake pads etc and basically trying new things, getting more involved and more difficult as I go :)

Im not great with complex electrics mind but, basic stuff is doable

It wasnt meant to come accross as narrow minded, I completely get what you're saying. But its not always the case in that respect, some people just cant be arsed, putting it bluntly ;). And Average Joe cant earn £2k in a weekend :( Me included

Tbh, my example was pretty s**t. I don't earn £2000 in a weekend but my company does. But then I own the company! lol.

Add to the fact that sometimes, there's no point in spending an entire weekend cussing and getting proper angry with myself when I can just pay someone to do it!!
