How to bed in new discs and pads?

  R35 GTR
Getting new brembos up front, with new bendix pads on rear and ds2500 on fronts.

What do I do, brake hard and sharp loads,

or

Gentle braking for a few miles?

An old BenR post I saved!

the bedding in process is cruicial too.
Dont do the slow braking for 100 miles crap, what your trying to do is heat the pads gradually so that you burn off and bond the resins.
go up to 60mph and slow down gradually to 5mph (dont stop or you'll leave pad deposits which lead to judder), then do it again and brake a tad harder, keep going but never stopping....brake harder each time....about 7-10 passes is fine and the brakes should be hot, smoking, then you can drive like normal.

Personally I then drive for a good 20 miles trying not to break to give them a really good chance to cool down.

get up to 70mph+ on an empty road and brake hard to near standstill. do this a few times til they are cooking.

When you say in the post dont stop, can i take my foot off brake when accelerating or do I need to learn left foot braking?

Yeah dont stop as in dont come to a halt cos if you do you'll leave pad deposits and get vibrations through the pedal, you dont need to left foot brake!

;).....tis the way!

i'll feel like they go 'off' by the 7th-9th pass, but thats normal. They wont feel normal again until they are completely cool and rested overnight in most cases.

ok, I tried left foot braking and nearly went through the windscreen.

I'm glad that I dont have to drive like a granny for a few miles then.:D

also if you stop when they are fully hot, you will "hot-spot" (localised heating=warping) the discs.

When I changed mine I waited until about 11pm and took a trip down the nearest dual carriageway to get as little traffic as possible. It's also nice and cool at night so afterwards the brakes cool down better than in the day.

I also felt the brakes 'go' after about 5-6 stops, but I probably braked a bit too hard on the first couple. Still felt good afterwards though.
