How to create a flat floor?

Okay im expecting the comments 'use wood' but seriously im stripping the car tomorow, and i would like a flat floor all the way to the front seats. But surely it would wobble and flex because there is nothing to hold it behind the front seats.

Maybe something like this??

Make a cardboard template then either make it from mdf or be different and cover the cardboard in a cloth, afterall its what 197s are made from

Just copy what he has done above. no need to cover the rear footwell too.

To stop it rattling or making a sound whack down a bit of loft insulation under the wood. Id also advise screwing it down some how. Maybe cut holes in the wood above where the isobar fixes, then use the bolts with some big washers to bolt it down there.

Yer i wasnt going to leave it loose but i want it to be perfect, maybe i could use some soft insulation to support the wood closer to the front, any other ideas?

Well i stripped it today want some advice on how to tidy it up really, think i might just carpet the whole lot not sure what to, especially where the door cards used to be.

Cover over the hole that teh door card has left with some cardboard, glue gun it in place. Carpet over it. For the flat floor just use some wood, though it might be a good idea to have a couple of strips of wood, going from the back of the seats to the back of the boot, then cover over them with cardboard and carpet it. Only reason I would say not to make the whole floor from wood is it would be a pain to put in!

all that wood/carpet cant weigh any less than if you were to keep the rear seats/plastic surely

For all the weight of 6mm ply. Not even 1/2 a sheet is needed. Do it properly its the best way. The ply is sturdy enough not to flex and doesnt move around if you get a tight fit :D

fill it with sand and then just smooth it off

:)

Dont think so some how, im either going to get some mdf and cut a template and make a flat floor that way OR going to carpet it all as it is and fill the spare wheel hole with some insulation.

Yer that would be a plus point lol have a mini beach but it would defeat the object of weight saving in the first place lol.

Lol okay lets forget the idea of the sand cause im not doing that, maybe when im selling the car lol, but for now im just going to carpet the lot i think but thats going to take ages and i will fuk it up so i just might get a piece of mdf and use that.

Well thats what i was thinking, but if its a tight fit it wont move or i could glue sections or screw it to the floor i think. :S

Should be secured to the car really, If you crashed badly ie. rolled it. That nice bit of wood in the back could end up in your head.

have to a agree what the hell point is there of taking the seats out if you are going to fill it back up full of wood you might aswell put the seats back in

carpet the metal looks better in my oppinion looks more factory than a dead flat lump of carpeted wood

Not you aswel lol okay Ya55er calm down lol, i do like the carpet look i think it would look good but i wanted the spare wheel hole to be filled a be leveled any ideas?? otherwise Ya55ers suggests i should just carpet that hole aswel.:boring:

one day you will need that spare wheel hole and you will look like a right tit, just carpet inside it and when you look at it from a distance you wont see the whole properly as the carpet will be dark, and if need be you can put something in the whole rather then have it fly all over the place on a "flat floor"

Thought u was going lol, well im just worried about carpeting it and it would look s**t and i would f**k it up thats all lol.

If you use sand your killing 2 birds with 1 stone tbh. Flat boot floor and your lowering the car ;)

Dont use mdf mate its far to heavy, 6mm ply is just fine, even 9mm ply if your worried. Make a cardboard template then make the ply floor, much easyier.

Yer mdf is a bit on the heavy side and no to the sand would love to do that though make a little sand box in the back lmao, i think ima just carpet it to shut Ya55er up lol.

  LY 182
just lay a flat bit of carpet over the lot get some thick ish carpet and it will just sit over the spare wheel well

go to a carpet shop with your car find a nice carpet and say you want it, go outside point to the inside of your car and say you want it in there and make sure they fit grippers around the outer edges:rasp:

Ecka, have you got any pics from the front seats looking backwards. Would like to see what you done with the wood over the back seat area? Did you use one big flat piece?

  Storm Grey 200
I really like sand pits.

However.
Just use a thin sheet of MDF if you want it flat that bad.
Cut it to shape using a template made from card/newspaper.
Cover it in carpet.
And then paint the metal black or carpet it. I would have left the rear door cards in tbh.

Then you get the stripped out looked without those pesky bonus'
