How to fit this stalk adaptor?!

  ?
I just recieved the following from ebay, and hoping to recieve a alpine headunit soon (ida-x100):

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=110280832074&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=001

How do i fit it? ive heard the red connector goes to the back of the display and not the actual stalk control block in the back of my existing headunit?

Edit - upon further research it appears i may need to buy a KWE-843E instead of the red connector (kwe-844e) i recieved? can anyone confirm this?

Car is a mk2ph1 1.6 16v rsi with stalk controls.

edit again - another website says kwe-844e is right... grr! Mine is the vdo tuner list i belive http://www.topparts.ee/files/Alpine_interfaces06.07.xls

  ?
Ahh that might make sense actually, im use to the layout of my old mk2ph1 (non tuner list model) so maybe the tuner list DOES need to be connected differently???

I think the red end goes into the box, white end into your steering wheel remote and 3.5mm jack into ur hideaway box. blue cable may be to earth but ur instructions should say.

  ?
3.5mm jack into headunit actually, just dont know where the red block goes or the blue wire... thinking it could be earth as you say.

Blue wire is to the headunit remote to power the adapter, red plug goes to the wires coming from the steering remote which are currently connected to the back of the clock/display. Unplug them from back of clock into adapter, simple.

Thanks!

Blue wire to same remote the amp/sub normally works off then?

So i actually unplug the red plug into the DISPLAY and not the head unit old wiring? So i have to take the dash off?

  BMW M135i
Yes dash has to come off, you unplug the red connector from the back of the display and plug it into the red connector on the adapter which is a copy of the socket on the back of the display. Yes uses the remote off the headunit which you'd normally run a sub off.

I've got a later version of the same adapter going spare which plugs into the yellow mini iso and shows stuff on the display as well as the stalk but i'm not sure it works with the red version of VDI.

Woah.. i understood none of that! So what does this adaptor actually do? just the stalk controls or does it show something on the display too ? :S

With the one you've got, nothing its just blank. The 845 will show stuff like the standard headunit does.

  ?
Oh right, not too bothered about that tbh. If it showed a huge alpine logo in black/white across the LCD whenever the headunit was on... that would be a different matter!

Do you have a seperate lead with a white connector on one end and a red connector on the other?

Alpine for Clio's 1998 on-wards

Part Numbers (both parts required)

KCE-840B Interface- (Renault, Peugeot, Landrover, Ford). Basic Alpine Harness Connector

KWE-845E Renault Clio 98 and new Renault 98 face-lift Models. 15 Pin NEW flat Molex-Connector

(taken from my donkeys old FAQ)

You can get round this with a test light and a person who knows what they are doing with electrics.
Its possible to not use the adapter and hard wire it into the car by cutting off the white connector on the 840B but i wouldn't recommend this unless you know what you are doing.

No

The 940B (and its respective adaptor KWE-942E) provide the screen/display functionality (its a better adaptor too, quicker to respond and easier to fit)

The 840B is the older interface and works with the stalk only.

But you said it wont fit?

What year is your car?

Did you unplug the molex from the back of the display and plug it into the adapter?
Don't plug the alpine part into the display it wont work.

I tried plugging it into the display oops. So i have to plug the red connector from alpine unit to the red connector of the car and nothing is connected to the display?

Yes correct

If you read that link it says 845e required for 2000 MY (model year) so you may be ok or you may have the wrong adaptor.

  ?
Right, just tried that.... it now makes sense as the wires do correspond. (blue/pin/green etc all line up)

But the actual adaptor wont dock. ITs just slighly the wrong shape/size? maybe im doing something wrong again?

  ?
Yeh think ive got the wrong adaptor then guys.

Do you know any shops that would sell the correct one and have it in stock?
