how to get locking nuts off

well long story short previous owner has the locking nut removal key, he told me he would post them to me but its now been a month and after a few PM's no reply so looks like im going to have to go about it the hard way as i need 4 new tyres badly!! (id likely get 3 points per tyre!) so i cant wait any longer.

how much do renault charge to source me a new set? if its resonable ill do that.

assuming if not im going to have to weld a socket onto the nut and crack them off that way then replace them with new wheel bolts?

any other ideas

as said, get a socket that isnt quite big enough to get over the locking nut,

and smash it on with a hammer,

im not sure how you get the nut back out the socket tho.

If you are member, the AA will take them off with a special impact driver, normally they will only do one to get you out of trouble with a flat tyre etc. but depending how amiable the AA man that arrives is, a good drink will help, and all 4 will be undone.
Renault will take them off with a master key at a price of course.
If you try and bash them off you'll be damaging the alloys and the locking bolts as well, no guarantee they'll come off either.

And never buy a car with bits missing when the vendor says he'll post them off to you. Falllen for this trick myself a couple of times ie. 2nd. key: Service History: Trim parts: They never send them.

how will hitting a socket onto the wheel nut damage the wheel??
plus i dont think the OP will want to use the locking wheel nuts, that he doesnt have the key to, again.

saying that, if the AA will indeed come take them off for you, it would be a much better option.

tyre centre lost my other half's locking wheel nut key, went into renault croydon and they matched it with one that they had in the workshop and ordered us a new set for roughly £40

i'd be calling the breakdown company first before i did anything. let them try first.

I removed a set from a Clio a week ago. It had the 5 spoke alloys with the centre caps that hide all the bolts. There was such a small gap between the wheel and the bolt that it would not have been possible to hammer a socket on and the bolts had spinning washers so it wouldn't have worked anyway. I welded a bolt to each locking nut on each wheel and got them off that way. No damage to the alloys at all and took no time at all. I charged £10 per wheel but she said Renault quoted her £240 all in to do the job.

I work for a breakdown recovery firm, we have a similar tool to below, in fact it's the same as what the AA and RAC use, they don't work with nuts with spinning washers like the genuine renault ones.

I've been using these for the last two years or so.

Amazing bit of kit.

The ones the AA use work on the spinning nuts because my neighbor took mine off for me and he's an AA man.
