How to remove standard heas unit?

I think my car is fitted with a ph1 172 tape deck head unit.

I don't have the keys to remove it. Can I use ends of a coat hanger or not?

As per other thread, it powers up but does not work. I want to get to the back of the unit to sort it out.

I use two nails that were lying around in the garage, to take mine out

Coat hangers is fine.. but be warned it may scratch/bend the holes.

Is it common that the HU fails? It turns on but no sound or anything. Also, where is the info displayed for the radio stations etc...?

Yeah it will be when worked with a standard HU.

Should be plenty of Renault CD HU's knocking about on ebay or here.

I don't seem to have the outside temo gauge as well???? Is that something to do with the wrong headunit?

I'll get an aftermarket HU soon, will the display where the clock is work then or only work with a renault HU?
