How to repair this exhaust join?

This is the join between my downpipe and exhaust. It's not a sealed join and so its blowing.

Whats the best way to repair this? The bolts in there are really rusted.. I'
I'm no expert on exhausts and wanted to hear what other people might think.

there will be some sort of gasket/seal between the two pipes - is it an OE exhaust? replacement parts shouldn't be difficult to get hold of if it is

may need to cut the bolts off if they're particularly bad. i'd use something like a 3M clean&strip disc to remove the rust from the pipe faces

It's possibly a powerflow exhaust, I need to double check. I'm fairly sure the gasket would still fit though...

Give it a good clean scrapeing all the crap out
new gasket in
new nuts and bolts on
Firegum round the outside to help it seal

I've just realised that after going out and looking at it again. The bottom will be no problem, but the top looks much harder to get to.

Bolts will deffo be tight due to rust, why not spray some WD40 on them ? leave it to soak over night then use a 10/13mm socket and crack it open

It's a pain in the arse to get those bolts undone if they're rusted up.

If there's two nuts on the same thread like mine, you'll have to use two spanners and turn them opposite ways to get them to seperate.

Then steer clear from sealing it with firegum, it turns brittle under heat, shakes and cracks up into little bits. Didn't keep my exhaust sealed for 3 weeks.

You can get exhaust gasket material off ebay and make your own gasket up, thats what i did with mine and its cheap and worked a treat

It should help initally though to get a carbon build up, once that has formed the firegum can fall off as its done its job

I got the bottom one off but the top is being a pain. The junior hacksaw I got just blunted.... haha.

The top bolt seems to be totally deformed with rust. I've got rust gel remover on there just now to soak in. Its mega awkward to get at aswell. I have a gasket ready to go on though.

Once the rust gel comes off, I think I might have to attack it with a dremel, although it might take some time...

Go get a better blade for your hacksaw mate, you'd be suprised the difference a decent blade makes over a shitty one that comes with it!
